All laws are put in place to benefit and preserve the society (or at least
attempt to do so). If there were no laws at all, we'd all be in deep shit. But laws should never be "set in stone" and only kept as long as they work well. If there is enough reason to change something, it should be done.
But I'm drifting offtopic here.
