The definition itself provides the answer. An ally is what I posted above.
Obviously, in a situation of struggle or conflict, an ally will step in to aide or assist. in this case, I am stepping in to the conflict to assist my allies in battle. Should you have an alliance, you are welcome to ask them for assistance.
