All religion aside, I do believe everything happens for a reason , in terms of bodily, mental, and physical reasons, why do we eat, cus we are hungry, why do we do random things, because our mind gives us a want to do so.
I think you are thinking more causality than "for a reason" in that it fits in to some bigger, all encompassing plan. I should have clarified in the first post that by reason I mean as part of a plan :P my bad.
Also, as for religion. It might not ever be stated anywhere in the bible or any other book of any other religion. But if said belief system happens to have an all knowing creator, than it logically follows that even if he doesn't
make things happen, he certainly
allows them to, which can be seen as just as bad in many cases. It's different if yu are talking about Greek Gods and the like, who were essentially just as shitty, or shitter than humans, but also had special powers.
