In my opinion, if the matches you're playing rely heavily on openers then you're either playing a simplistic mode or you and your opponents' skill levels aren't matching up well.
In reference to Hamster I have used the judo " hamster hug" as my opener almost every single time. Except I was using it long before I even knew who hamster was (yes this was a long LONG time ago, hence why I don't play judo anymore). Good moves succeed and are passed on while others are inevitably negate.
