Wrong. In the past ppl were using almost only openers, even pr0s like KamiKo, and they were way better than players nowadays. You can use premade moves in first 100-150frames, then You have to use Your skill- even at wushufixed it's 350frames left, not even talking about brushu (Ed + MF + dt + df)...
So no. Impro has minor impact at general wushu skill. It's more like being a gentleman than being better. And giving Your opponent the same chance to win- You have the same amount of time for each move. Not for ex. 2weeks of making 60speed zomg op kick which will destroy Your opponent in 100frames...
Gonna repeat myself: impro is more like "being fair" than "being better".

i learned how to make setups and comebacks after i started to improv, so it's clearly helps.

i was and still doing random crap and set up mysefl, this is how i learned to set up from any position. and comeback.

starting with same thing all the time would not give such diversity.
