Huh? Distortion with shaders on but not with them off?
Should be uniform distortion at the top of joints, same as you get on heads. Looking at that screen shot it does seem to be wider for you than it should be, possibly a driver/graphics setting issue on your machine?
I see no distortion difference between shaders on/off with joints on mine.
