If you were able to create a multi-way conversation on irc using these functions, then that would be beneficial. Although there are already, more or less, private ircs used for such things, it wouldn't hurt.

In theory it would be as simple as typing a chat room name (eg, [Clan], [Public]) into an input box and you would be able to chat on that channel - while in-game.
