Who?

Long time replay-maker, helped giving realism/sparring/tricking/hacking a bit of a boost, ORMO co-leader, tried to go a bit beyond what was being done at that time, tried to be as bothersome as possible for hampa to get him to remove the old limit that only allowed people to make somewhat short replays, NutHug's nemesis, etc

One of the main purposes of this thread will be for me to share some hints on how to make the most of Toribash as a player.
Updates shall roll as often as the outside world lets me.

I'm going to start by sharing some tips, tricks, tools, tutorials, [T] WINS, etc that I've used through the times that may be a little less known, but that can make a big difference on your singleplayer performance.
I'll try to scale things so that there is some content useful for all levels of replay-makers.

Tools

Enikesha

http://toribash.enikesha.net/- This is a replay parser. It writes down all the joints you moved and the respective frames.
You can use it to see step by step what the replay-maker did, and that is particularly useful to analyse the varying ways people do particular moves like spins/booms/set-ups.
It also serves another purpose for exhaustive and perfectionist players - polishing out details. With it you can pin-point the specific frame where you moved a joint wrongly and remake it in-game, keeping everything else but that faulty turn.
Note that your exact movements are a fine combination, and that correcting for example a wobbly neck by going back with enikesha and holding it can affect and disrupt whatever you did next sometimes.

I don't actually use this one, but I reckon it might be helpful for a ton of people who aren't yet quite used to replay-making and often accidentally press space, deleting their replay.

This is an incredibly handy tool but somewhat advanced, since it requires a proper understanding of replays in notepad.
It writes down all the parameters of all the frames that comprise a replay, not just the frames where you moved joints like the client normally does.
I'll give you an example of its utility on the tricks I'll list bellow.

Notepad

The prime tool for tons of purposes.
A lot of the tricks that I'll mention later will have as a requirement a basic knowledge of using notepad in Toribash.
Did you ever start a replay with too little matchframes? With the wrong engage distance? Without self-damage on?
Do you want to learn how to teleport in Toribash? How to manipulate distant objects around you without grabbing them? How to go back in time?
Notepad allows you to do all of this and so so so much more.

First Person non-directed towards tori/uke

Altimeter and Speedometer

The command /altimeter 1 will provide you with a way to measure the height of the highest body part on Tori and on Uke.
The command /speedometer 1 will provide you with a way to measure the speed of the fastest body part on Tori and on Uke.

reSpar - Continue your multiplayer spars/parkours/etc if someone disconnected

Summing up what it does (though I strongly recommend you read the thread out): You're sparring. Someone disconnects. This allows you to pick back up on where you were exactly on the spar and continue it.

Tricks

Changing the engage distance in a replay that you already started

Step 1: Open your replay with notepad (you go to your Toribash folder, then to the "replays" folder, right click the desired replay, "Open with", and select notepad)
Step 2: Go to the NEWGAME line (it should look similar to this: NEWGAME 0;1000 1 0 0 0 2 500 0 0 classic 0 0 100 0 0 0 1 0 2 0 0 0)
Step 3: Change the engage distance number to the desired one (using the above NEWGAME line as an example, the place where the 500 is represents the engage distance)
Step 4: Finally, you MUST delete all of the lines on the replay that start with POS
Alternative to Step 4 - Quicker method: Only delete the POS 1 lines. They are of Uke so only he will change his engage distance though.

Freezing - Semi-advanced players

Note: This only works if you freeze your tori for a considerable succession of frames, like 20 or so, or else it isn't noticeable.
Step 1: Open your replay with notepad (you go to your Toribash folder, then to the "replays" folder, right click the desired replay, "Open with", and select notepad)
Step 2: Go to the FRAME line where you want start to completely stop and freeze your Tori (remember that in a 500 matchframes replay, the line "FRAME 100" is what happens on the displayed frame 400 in-game http://imgur.com/eUUTlD5)
Step 3: Delete the POS, QAT, and ANGVEL lines for ALL of the frames where you want the freeze to happen
Step 4: Write the FRAME lines for all of the consecutive frames you want the freeze to last (if you want a freeze from FRAME 400 to FRAME 410, there MUST be a line FRAME 401, a FRAME 402, a FRAME 403, a FRAME 404, FRAME 405, FRAME 406, FRAME 406, FRAME 407, 408, 409, and 410)

Dual Gravity Replays - Advanced players

Step 1: Begin the replay normally, on the gravity that you wish to start.
Step 2: Memorize the frame where you want to change the gravity and preferably make it so that you move at least one join on said frame.
Step 3: Open the replay with notepad and change the gravity to the one you wish to follow with.
You just need to change the corresponding number on the NEWGAME line. It's easy to spot because normally it's the only one that's -9.82 or -30.
Step 4: Open the replay normally. You will notice that the parts that you already made are glitched - don't worry, it's supposed to be like that.
Go to the frame that you memorized on step 2, and edit from that frame on playing normally.
Step 5: Memorize the frame where you want to finish the part with that gravity.
Step 6: Download this script - http://forum.toribash.com/showthread...98#post7006498 and place it on the "script" folder inside "data".
Step 7: Open your replay normally. On the menu, Go to Utils -> Script and load "recordframe".
Step 8: Press enter and write without any of the [] : /record 2 [name of your replay] [name of the file you want at the end] [number of the frame you memorized for step 2] [number of the frame you memorized for step 5]
Step 9: Open the file of your replay that you used before the script on notepad (I'll refer to it as the input file from now on). Open the file that the script created on notepad (I'll refer to it as the output file from now on).
Step 10: Change the gravity in the input file to what it was on the start of the replay.
Step 11: Copy everything that is BELLOW the NEWGAME line on the output file, and paste it to the input file, overwriting what was in it starting from the FRAME line number that the output file begins with.
Step 12: Save the input file and open it normally to check if everything is working.
Step 13: Repeat the process if you want to continue hopping between gravities.

How to turn Tori and Uke to each other when they are side by side in a mod

The mod has the engageplayerpos set as: 2.00,5.00,5.00,-2.00,5.00,5.00
By logic you'd think that setting the engageplayerrot to: 0,0,-90,0,0,90 would solve it, but it promps this bug - http://imgur.com/PQiZL8P

So here is how you solve it:
Setting the engageplayerpos and engageplayerrot to the values mentioned above does NOT prompt a bug if there isn't a mod set.

Step 1:Therefore you can just open Freeplay regularly and set:

engageplayerpos: 2.00,5.00,5.00,-2.00,5.00,5.00
engageplayerrot: 0,0,-90,0,0,90

Step 2: Hold all, press space once and save the replay.
Step 3: Open your replay with notepad (you go to your Toribash folder, then to the "replays" folder, right click the desired replay, "Open with", and select notepad)
Step 4: Copy everything below and including the FRAME 0 line - http://imgur.com/kf6FlR6
Step 5: Open Toribash on the desired mod, and simply save a replay. In this case I used r_rooftops-v2.tbm - http://imgur.com/JIEHn82
Step 6: Open this second replay on notepad, and copy the stuff mentioned in STEP 4 to it. - http://imgur.com/ZB0ggn0
Step 7: Save this new file and you can now open it and enjoy the desired positions. - http://imgur.com/B0XbGHf

Tori - Uke Replay Merging

This is particularly useful for parkour replays or the likes of it that involve moving 2 rag-dolls.
You'll need basic Notepad knowledge for this so read up on that Tool entry before tackling this one.
Step 1:Make a replay moving only Tori.
Step 2:Make a replay moving only Uke.
MAKE SURE THEY DON'T INTERCEPT EACH OTHER IN ANY OCCASION.
Step 3:Open your Tori replay with notepad (you go to your Toribash folder, then to the "replays" folder, right click the desired replay, "Open with", and select notepad)
Note that all the lines will have a 0 right after their title (JOINT 0, POS 0, LINVEL 0, etc). This means that these lines are referring to Tori.
In a replay where you only move Uke all the lines will start with a 1.
Step 4:Open your Uke replay with notepad (you go to your Toribash folder, then to the "replays" folder, right click the desired replay, "Open with", and select notepad).
Step 5:Now to merge the replays, you need to copy all of the lines referring to Uke to Tori's replay (JOINT 1, POS 1, LINVEL 1, etc), while NOT overwriting Tori's stuff.
This means you'll have to create blocks like this:

So if you move Uke and Tori on the same frame, you only need a FRAME line once, so you only copy the "JOINT 1, POS 1, LINVEL 1, etc" lines.

Step 7:Finally save the file with a different name (just in case something goes wrong) and open it up to see if you made any mistakes.

Ctrl+Z - Undo

If you press Ctrl+Z at a given time while editing a replay, or while playing online, your joints will all reset to the state they were in at the last point the frame count moved.
It's "undo" like in Word or similar programs.

Changing the match frames after you already started a replay

Step 1: Open your replay with notepad (you go to your Toribash folder, then to the "replays" folder, right click the desired replay, "Open with", and select notepad)
Step 2: Go to the NEWGAME line (it should look similar to this: NEWGAME 0;1000 1 0 0 0 2 500 0 0 classic 0 0 100 0 0 0 1 0 2 0 0 0)
Step 3: Change the match frames number to the desired one (using the above NEWGAME line as an example, the place where the 1000 is represents the engage distance)
Step 4: Save the file and that's it!

Ahh and feel free to post bugged/glitched replays here and I can try to fix them.
Also answering questions about whatever you ask that is Toribash related or not.
