look, there are more directions to advance upon: forward throw (nobody as far as i know figured how to execute throws forward on regular basis) and whole unexplored direction of aikido - using backheels.
my whole take on aikido is simple: i don't need to go into single player, or stage replays to do something that enjoyable, looks cool and fairly complex, i focus on doing awesome looking and effective enough stuff ingame in competative environment.
fairplay why and what is really broad topic, by the whole idea is to make sure noobody get an extra advantage, so matches are resolved by pure raw skill.
we played with Chris937 couple of aikido matches and believe me, there is nothing more intense, painfull, hard and satisfyng as playing by "fairplay" ruleset without trying to get an advantage of low grabs and dms. the whole fairplay will be absolutely irrelevant as soon as grabs will be breakable, we will just do no a dm aikido and it will be a blast.
i have no idea about you, but i think it should be encouraged for new people to develop new advanced techniques based on stuff shown in guides, because let's face it: giving out people crutches while showing some noob stuff would not make any good. most people (me included) didn't try to advance much in terms of experimenting from 3rd dan to 10 dan, ( i was a horrid lifter and suplexer, seriously), so it's better to have techniques that are complex enough for constant improvement and possibly developing new stuff based on stuff from tutorial.
it took me couple of years to develop throws from something occasional to somewhat effective and executeable on regular basis. and it took just a couple of dans for holotor and chlebicek to master this technique on my level and use it constantly. i mean look, people don't change much in their set of tools for each mod for span of brown-10 dan, so if guide contains something really outdated, people who learned from it will step in the very same pile as we did.
i really want to see people to create new and more advanced techniques based on the very cutting edge stuff avaible now, so may be we will see something even more interesting in the future.
not the very same double grab stuck in one piece kicking in the nuts and tripoding crap we see everyday already.
i don't think that any of us in "bushido" (hate the name btw, but re-branding) will come up with backheel techniques any time soon, considering that we don't play regulary these days.
