Both games are MOBAs (Mulitplayer online battle arenas) but league of legends is seen from an angle above the "Champions" while in smite you are watching your "God" from behind. Another major difference is that in smite you move with WASD, and in league of legends you move by right clicking the ground. It's also easier to hit abilities in league of legends. In smite ato-attacks are not a guaranteed hit as it is in league of legends.
