I've heard great things about pink floyd from just about everywhere, but, never really felt the urge to look into them, however that may change very soon. you dislike 80's rock? a little bit strange imo, since there are always at least a few songs from the 80's that are really fun to listen to, but, hey i won't judge your opinion.
soft or trippy? straight out of my mind comes the band tv on the radio, who have been around for a while, but, are still making pretty decent music of all sorts and sounds, which is really appealing to their fanbase at least.

these may not be appealing to your taste though, so if you are interested in them, i'd recommend exploring their earliest albums, definitely return to cookie mountain and dear science - these have plenty of different sounds and genres.
radiohead may also be to your taste, but, to me most of their music feels too depressing, which is practically the opposite of what i want to feel while listening to music.
