Also to be at first, sure you have to be active but you also have to win the matches that you are playing. Zalf may be preying on low belts but once the elo restricted servers are in effect and/or matchmaking that will be solved.

I'm proud of your 10 year old depiction of the ranking system.
People that are the most active and can win more matches than other players deserve to be in the #1 position. Maybe they aren't the best, but their recent game history should reflect that they are. Zalf is attacked because he is in a desirable position, people feel as if he shouldn't be there. The ranking system is still working out the kinks. All in all, we are still in the experimental stage of this evolution.
Its called a rank system for a reason not an activity challenge. Every single 5th dan plus is able to get to rank 1 easily. Every black belt could probably get rank 1 fairly easily, its just a matter of time.
The rank system means literately nothing and it seems that %90+ of the community realizes this and thus does not try to gain a good rank.
If there was a real rank system then people might actually try.
This ranking system isn't even an "experiment" its just hampa being lazy and blind as usual. Its blatant that this system wouldn't work from the second it was launched and it blows my mind that hampa can't see or understand this.
