The story isn't preposterous, and is 100% real.
I and my mother have spoken to the family, and they were told by the police that he died of dehydration because he was left outside his house with no way in. His wife came home and found him dead outside of the house.
It really did happen, and the wife told the police basically what time she'd gotten home and the police have the taxi company records of when he was picked up because they record the time, etc. The taxi's also have a GPS that they could go and look at and see when he was at the address, etc. It's a true story, and you're right it sounds so preposterous because it doesn't seem like anyone could have died like that, and then someone being blamed, arrested is now trying to be charged.
