As a hunter you make use of your smaller destabilizing attacks. Attacks that you may not get a direct win but will force a defensive action. For example threaten a lift to get your opponent stretched out then jump half guard. Then work a sweep. With this style explosive movement is your friend.
Scavenger. With this mind set you are looking to survive till your opponent makes a mistake. You look for control of their center of mass or their head. Tends to use more reserved movement.
The end result of either methods of thinking is the systematic removal of options for your opponent while looking to increase your own

You can also think of hunter style as working to set up the throw/strike that you are most proficient at.
Scavenger is following the basics and making sure you dot all the I's and crossing your t's.
Both styles have their place. Though I think scavenger is the best one to learn first because it gives you a solid base to build attacks from.
Yes I like this a lot. This sort of thinking was what I based explosive and reserved movement on.
Today I went on a 3 tourney winning streak and lost in the finals of the 4th. I fought some pretty good characters. A lot of these replays came out looking really good so I thought I'd share them all since its been a while since I posted..
ankle pick - this guy was good but i already knew i would win when he exposed his leg. an easy pick plus the good wrestling foot-base equaled an easy overturn single victory.
turnover counter - this guy was the main challenger for the 1st two tourneys and in the third i guess he got frustrated. he thought he could catch me with a lazy turnover but i saw it when he started leaning so i dove for the low grab to counter and that swung him out of balance.
misdirection - this is a basic example of something i want to introduce to R&D soon. here you see he has me lifted and is choosing which way to take me. so i sort of fake my rotation and then revert back when i get my footing. this fake out cause him to slip and dq easy.
option H - a new option off my opener that i will be trying int he future. Sort of like a kick and duck under.
osoto gari (5) - very cool replay in slow motion, i try to set a hip throw in one direction but its off balance so i rotate out and set another hip throw. My sweeping leg contacts his arm right between my two grips and snaps the elbow which makes him limp for the toss.
double wrap - this was my final match for the first tourney. tackled him with a good old double leg wrap. Precision needed to set up, but its impossible to defend.
