Throughout the entire story, the true protagonist Gon is looking to find one of the most powerful hunters in the world, his father Ging. It turns out, Ging's student saved Gon on numerous occasions and is also an intensely powerful hunter. That young man? Is Kite.
Kite is very very shy. At first he lived by himself, poor, hanging out with dogs and horses in the sewers. He becomes very in love with the idea of nature preservation, and hates taking the lives of innocent animals. He's originally the person to investigate the idea of a mysterious beast known as the Chimaera Ants.
Kite is a conjurer, and an interesting one at that. Kite summons a slot machine, which rolls numbers 1-9, and that number corresponds to a different weapon. He relies solely on luck to get a decent weapon to use, whether it be a gun or a large scythe. In fact, his rarest number can only be pulled if the weapon senses he's very afraid of dying. This super ability actually saves Kite's soul, making him immortal.
Very neat dude. While he technically dies to Pitou, one of the three royal guards of the chimaera ant king, she is able to revive as a young woman. Her power is now even scarier.
