the idea is that looking at the eyes that he has all over his body makes you hallucinate for a limited amount of time, that's why he has those red things coming out of his body and in the background. technically you could still fight him while hallucinating, but it'd be very hard to focus.
he can control the red tentacle things at will, but they're not real. that means he has to rely on weapons to deal any kind of real damage, it's all in your mind!
just don't look at him.
