Alternative solution to transparent textures for body/joints
Random thought but I think it would be cool if, instead of allowing invisible textures, any transparent sections of the texture instead show the gradient or lack thereof from behind it. For example, if I had a transparent section in one of my shins and I was wearing both vampire gradients as well, then the transparent section would show the red beneath it.
Pros:
- There's no need to police the soft rule of textures needing to be at least 50% visible or whatever the margin was
- Allows a more dynamic feel to textures, you could make a black design and change the background colour simply by switching gradients
- Gradients would no longer be obsolete once you have textures
- Creates the opportunity to have pure white sections on your textures rather than the weird off-white that artists will be well aware of
Cons:
- 0.1% (plucked from thin air really but its not common) of people use transparency in their textures
I'm intrigued to hear peoples thoughts on this!
