Imagine what happens after humankind develops powerful quantum computers and artificial intelligence....Imagine a sentient entity which could instantly draw information from various networks all around the world, making decisions based on it and learning from it's own mistakes. A sort of digital semi-deity with super-high IQ; a big daddy of mankind.

Imagine if people colonize some planets and such entity would have access to and control of their data as well.

I just re-watched Ghost in the Shell and it made me think about it.

Possibly.

It's behavior will largely depend on how we program it, but as we know...experiences and new information can and do over-ride certain inherent behavior in sentient beings.

It would polish it's character over time to create something entirely different, possibly.

Guys....It's a program. A digital entity.

It won't cost anything people can't handle.

We could program it to have certain traits. We would make it feel just like we do, but it may not stay that way however.

And why we would need it? Oh i don't know....a sort of super-guardian who would have our best interests in mind?

Yep, that's sort of a being im imagining.

Except i was thinking of more altruistic one, but....i can't know if making a being of such power and keeping it favorable to us is possible.

Only way we could do it is to somehow disable it's ambition for dominance which is present in ALL life that nature has made.

ok, while I'm at it I will imagine that there is some big, bearded megalomaniac in the sky who will smite me to eternal pain if I anger him, but take me to some place where I never get sad if I make him happy

I don't mean to sound too cynical, and honestly I love wonder and imagination and I feel sort of bad for the above paragraph.

But honestly man, IF this does happen, so many things would have to change about the world. I mean, who would oversee this thing? How would it be funded? It sucks, but the only way this could ever really work in my opinion would be if people reached some sort of Utopian peace, otherwise it WOULD be used inappropriately...on some level. And if it was built in our current world it would most likely be tied to some corporation or organization or government that would naturally have some sort of agenda.

Plus, if it is made by people, it would naturally carry the same flaws that people have. People are messed up, really badly, and no matter how it works out mathematically this thing would only have messed up people at its helm.

just to clarify, I don't think that this is at all impossible. I just don't think it would be feasible in any sort society people will ever reach, and if it was, it would be flawed.
