Backseat Moderating
"Backseat moderating" in my opinion, is a stupid rule.
I tried to help a new user out, who posted in the wrong board, so I just said that it was in the wrong area, and he might want to remove it before a GM saw it. I didn't say anything like "You can't do that" or anything that would qualify as backseat moderating. But I personally think that backseat moderating shouldn't be a rule, for it really just forbids players from helping newer players with anything unless the post is in the beginner sanctuary, and I have still got warns from there for "backseat moderating". I know, every fucking time I post anything here it either gets deleted or everyone just hates on it. I just personally hate this rule. I like to help new players, but I always get warned for it. SO, instead of people saying that I am a fucking moron for posting this, can we actually have a "Discussion"?

Thanks.
Yeah, with what Zelda said. I don't actually post it anymore unless I am linking them to the direct place to post. Besides that, I PM them and tell them what they did was wrong and show them how to fix it.

With Backseat Moderating, I surprisingly haven't been flagged or anything for doing what you said you've done. But it has happened to me in the past. So, I don't think it should count as BSM unless you're throwing them off topic or being a huge dick about something.

"Dear reader, I hope this email finds you before I do."
well there's a handy report button. generally if you are backseat moderating your post is also a useless post for that thread because you are not a moderator. let's say someone posts something in the wrong area of a market thread, and you say "this should go somewhere else" you aren't contributing to that thread nor do you have the authority no move it to the appropriate area so there's no reason for you to be giving out any warnings ever if you aren't a mod. so if you aren't contributing to that thread you post has no use but to simply be there regurgitating the rules. just report the post/thread instead. if backseat moderating wasn't a rule we might as well give every player under the join date of like 2010 the ability to move threads in the right area, which obviously wont happen.

post script: just report it

post post script: JUST REPORT IT
I don't think its only a poor thing.
"Can you post in-game pictures"
"Could you fix that link?"
"Could you update what payments u accept?"

I don't think thats shitposting at all. Sure the "PUT A [MP] TAG" or something along those lines is not something people shoud do, but for a problem that the poster can fix himself and isn't a massive breach for rules, I see no reason why a regular user couldn't give them a heads up.
I got infracted a bit ago just for redirecting someone to the right thread. So I guess that counts as useless posting for helping others. Wonderful. That just doesn't seem fair.

This thread has run its course.

C) It makes a post that, if a moderator later intervenes, they have to either refute, delete, edit, or reply to in a situation where that could have been unnecessary. All of these actions would have to be taken with concern to points A and B, in the best cases, or for point D in the worst case. D) Posts regarding rules tend to be at least as off-topic for any specific thread as any post breaking the rules in that thread.

Kindly just report rule breaking or if you feel compelled to help out then use PMs.
Cheers guys.
