Looking back on the present
When we look back at the past we notice many injustices and ethical issues that, for the people of the time, were considered normal and a part of daily life (e.g. the rights of women, slavery, child abuse).

When people, 100 years from now, look back at our time, what do you think they will be disgusted at? What will they say, "how barbaric, they should've known better" about?

This is a Discussion thread, so be sure to put some effort into your posts.

Console Peasents.

But in all seriousness, I think that this could go many different ways.

If the future ends up war-ridden and destroyed: They might think we were all too selfish and cruel to others, and that we were blind to the hurting of others. We ourselves would be the barbarians, with our massive carbon footprints and not caring about the environment. OR, we may look back and be like, "hey, they weren't all that bad compared to how we are now, what with all the wars and disease and the fall of society". It all depends on perspective.

If the future is pretty good: Again, they might think that we were too selfish now, and that we are too focused on the here and now and not about protecting the planet and our pears. Or, as far as we know, we might find some way of preserving the future AND still living luscious life styles, and they might wonder how stupid we were for not thinking of this life style sooner.

It all depends, really.

There was a time where they wouldn't consider us all that dumb, but the United States of America is is a rapid paced decline from a period where we would be considered civilized, so now instead of the greeting "Hello", we get a "Yo? Wazzap?". The state of Americas youth is dooming us. Hell, it looks like they think Kanye West would make a good president, so what would that tell you?

Allow me to steer this conversation closer to something that I intended when I made this thread. What do we consider normal today that has glaring ethical considerations that are overlooked? Factory farming, for example. Anyone who's seen the conditions that we kill animals in satisfy our consumption needs is surely taken aback at how horrific it is. Yet we're convinced that it's a necessary evil, regardless of how immoral we think it is.

What other examples of 'moral negligence' in our society can you think of?
I would very much like to give a long full answer to this but atm I can't rly be assed. I think there should be a MAJOR development in Medical Science and Bio Chemistry. Just take a look at all the things that we are only JUST coming to know of like genetic modification - soon they'll be things we're very familiar w/ and think almost nothing of. Gene replacement for eradication of genetic disorders like Huntingdon's and Down's Syndrome. But ofc that all depends on the perspective of the ethics of it all but it's not like it's unrealistic - like if it did happen in the near future, It wouldn't shock me as much as compared to some other things ppl have suggested (not in this thread but from other sources). Another field is the technological world that no single person in the modern day can say isn't rapidly developing faster than any other field of anything right now. Again, significantly from a medical aspect from things like prosthetic/bionic limbs to maybe even composite (minor) organs (this I actually doubt bc of all development in organ transplant). But you can roughly see how the future might be w/ regards to the things that we'll have as an oppose to the things that we won't have any more of. So I think people will look back and think, "All those people lost to genetic disorders....Wast of lives".

The corruption, redundancy, and stupidity of greed and capitalism. Those things are destroying today's societies.
Chickster: I literally don't know why I did it.

It is after the morning prayer, Ahmud and Mehmet walk out onto the grassy field that stands in front of the old Bundestag (now Great Muhammad Mosque).
-Ahmud, do you ever think about the times of old, when Avrupa was still ruled by white kaffirs?
-Ah yes Mehmet, but the heathen couldn't see how our cleverly disguised invasion would lead to their eventual overthrow!
-Haha yes Ahmud, stupid kaffirs never learned. It's disgusting how naive they were.
-Anyways Mehmet, my goat ran away yesterday, let's find some white women to rape.
Indistinguishable rape cries follow as our two heroes run off into the distance.
That was funny and all, but I have clarified this thread's purpose to avoid posts like that.

Can you respond to that?
