Grammatically "threat" isn't usually something that has already happened, and certainly isn't something that of which the worst has passed.

Eg you threaten to kill someone.
But once you kill them, it's not a threat any more.

There is a threat of future terrorist attacks. There is not a threat of future smoking deaths. It's logically nonsense.

I know I've said this before, I'm not sure if you are a non-native speaker or if you do this on purpose, but either way that's not how English works.

Its not nonsense at all, peoples lives are at risk ergo it is a threat.

Thats exactly how english works in terms of the word threat.

If you have been burgled and had all your possessions stolen, you manage to retrieve half of them - then you get told by the thief that they will steal the possessions you managed to retrieve its a threat. Just because the impact isnt going to be as big as the first time it doesnt make it not a threat which seems to be what youre arguing.

The google definition of threat is:

a person or thing likely to cause damage or danger.

By this definition smoking is undeniably a threat, so can you kindly refrain from arguing nothing but the semantics of my posts?

Pouffy's argument and yours both maintain the philosophy that because it hasn't affected us directly, it's not a problem.

Why?

The only real point you raised in your initial pro-trump post was this:
Illegal immigration is the biggest threat to the US at the moment. Trump is the only candidate who has made it clear that he's going to do something about it.

I am refuting this by telling you that Illegal immigration is not the biggest threat to the US, Im showing that it is not the biggest threat by showing a bigger threat.

Im not at all arguing that terrorism is not a problem, however it is unquestionably not the biggest threat to the US as you stated, and it is not even close to being so.

In short, no.

How does illegal immigration cause the US not to be self-governing?

Yes, smoking does indeed harm citizens of the US

The people who smoke are also citizens of the USA - car accidents are also a larger threat to the usa than illegal immigration currently.

I agree that terrorist attacks have no place in society, that does not change the fact that the threat they pose pales into significance when compared with other threats to the country.

Are you suggesting that a mirror of what happened in Turkey is likely to happen to the USA? I think thats what youre suggesting, and I also think you know as well as me thats blatantly just wrong.

What was the strawman argument there? I dont know what you were trying to say.

"It can never happen to us"?
When referring to something that happened to another country suggests that the same thing is going to happen to the country in question.

Edit: Your most recent answer only complained about the fact I didnt use a probability word, you havent explained why you had an objection with the above statement at all and why you think it is a "strawman". Could you please do that and not make this discussion circular thanks.
