I think opening a new thread to introduce yourself and to give everyone a chance to get to know you is absolutely appropriate.

Well i dot know about you but if that was an introduction then all we would know is that he is thankful to be accepted (like any member would be). Also members introduce themselves in their applications as such so it would not be appropriate to just make a thread saying hello, no offence to Warman, i think he understands now.
