Google ends Chinese censorship
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/...-to-china.html

+Respect for google. Even if they just did this out of financial interests.
Informational blockades are evil.

tl;dr: google used to cooperate with Chinese government by censoring certain search results. Now it's no longer the case.

Oh i think they had blocked all information on events like Tienanmen Square etc. And did their utmost to restrict the access of Chinese citizens to 'evil capitalist culture' blabla.

China is a pretty cool guy like that.
Then again in a country that is under the iron fist of their government it's not like it matters anyway. Remember the last time the chinese people came out to try and protest?

People getting run over by tanks is a pretty good government system eh. =|
You think some average Wei (see what i did there? It's like average joe but Chinese) would even bother to bypass a filter? Doubt it.

The filters must have had a huge impact because all the less curious and enthusiastic people (read: vast majority) were happily gobbling up whatever google.cn showed them.

Ye, getting around filters is something that would take specific know how, and if said know how was filtered, they might not have been able to learn it.

Either way, I like google. They are one of the few corporations I actually do like.

As if the world cares what australia does.

but, seriously. This is a great move by google. Most people in china probably didn't have the know-how to avoid the filter and freedom of information is so valuable in the modern world. It's a real step in the right direction.
