I dont get the black lines/curves.
On the back of the head, it looks like fire or somethin.

Are those scales on his face?

I thought of the black lines as "darkness taking over" or some such. And yeah, I guess those are sort of like scales.

Good point about the cartoonishness. May go back and address that. When I started I intended it to be a simple cartoonish black-and-white head, but halfway through started adding more realistic details. Could use more of those.
