Alternative victory conditions
So far there are two: win by accumulating more points at the end, or have the opponent DQ. I think it'd be nice if you could use commands (or mod file) to substitute some other conditions instead. For example, dismembering or fracturing your opponent, or being the first to reach X amount of points. Such victory conditions would make running or point-holding useless, since you won't be able to win unless you meet one of the conditions. If the timer runs out before that happens, it'll count as a draw.

This idea is nothing short of fantastic, and I for one will be really disappointed if it isn't implemented in one way or another.

Odlov, if you could - expand your idea to include more scenarios. Maybe a dev will like one of them and decide to implement all of them.

Personally I like the idea of first to hit x with y - it'd be a cool implementation and a lot of fun "ok it's wushu and the first person to kick the opponent with their foot wins"

DMs Fracs - of course excellent - first to decap head wins, or first to dismember 3 joints etc.

Damage - inflict x amount of damage to the other player (ro

That's also a good one! I added it to suggested conditions in the OP.

I like this a lot. That's a pretty good idea. That'll help matches not last too long here and there.

Yes, this is a great idea and it would make GMTourneys/in-game events a lot more fun.
I cannot imagine the new ideas this would bring for mods as well.

but as competitive mods, that sounds awesome! especially for duels and such.

I think the likelihood of draws depends entirely on what sort of mod you put these conditions into. Obviously if you put a "fracture opponent" condition into a mod with very high fracture threshold, then you'll be in for many draws. I'm sure whoever sets up a public server will make an effort to make it balanced, if he should choose to change victory condition.

I don't even care if these ever make it to public rooms, as long as I can set them in my own server :P
Well, it could end in a draw in points. When two players colide, I have seen them get the exact amount of points. And if they drifted from each other. That's one way.

"...or being the first to reach X amount of points."

This ! I've been waiting for this for ages. That's the thing that will clearly change all the striking/nograb mods for the best.
Forcing players to engage and reach a fixed amount of points would annihilate running ; you could still camp and play defensively but you don't get to avoid fighting anymore, being defensive is a totally legit playstyle as long as you get to actually fight.

It would be even cooler if there were a way to keep your points over the next set of fights until the fixed limit is reached. Like lets say the amount of points required to trigger the win is 100k, if no player reaches the amount of points during the first fight, it ends as a draw but both players keep their points over the next fight(s) and keep fighting until one of them gets 100k points.

I can't think of any better competition format for striking mod : that's fair, action intensive, no running involved etc...
I love all of the ideas that people have thrown around in this thread. They seem like they would be a good addition for both standard mods and object mods.

1. This is an optional feature - something you could set in your own server. The old system would be the default.

2. It would not ruin sparring or anything else because you would have full control over how easy it is to win in your own server. You could set the "winning points" amount to 1000000000, or set dm or ft to 5000 and spar til you're blue in the face. Or, you know, you could just not use these alternative victory conditions.
