This is very accurate, undermining is the perfect word here, maybe better than trivializing. I thought it was a pretty out of place comment but in no way did I mean malice or anything
I was trying to give a train of thought behind why people would disagree with the comment. In the op I admitted I was unaware of a lot as I mean most of us simply don't have the time to be aware of stuff like this so I thought maybe there was a lack of context which would explain such a comment on a topic that doesn't merit silliness
