yes but usually people who fuck up threads are the ones who are pretty new to the forums, it's easier for them to see it on thread rather than a PM

also by posting on a thread it also shares the knowledge to other people lurking on the same page

hearthpwn loves backseatmoderating because it saves the mods alot of work
the position i have is so easy due to the community doing half my work

but hey u keep being stupid!!!!!! ?

i argued for the backseat moderation with sources and if you consider it not relevant because you deem that the community doesn't need it then how about you ask the community for themselves?
i mean honestly, most of the decisions are made completely from moderators own views and it's wrong on so many levels

it is, after all, due to the community that a forum lives on

but hey who am i to speak i dont even have a colored name

Because the people who currently backseat moderate don't know the rules themselves.

But if it was allowed it more often than not be people who know what they're talking about.

In fact, a staff member can deal with any situation much better than anyone.
I can't see a single reason to change this. :v

But... If people really really really want to help, a kind of "helpers" squadron should be considered. People subscribe to a list, get trained to specific situations, earn achievements for it and help whom they want to help. or just apply for staff/lmod

Backseat moderation "with sources" is still not as efficient as you think. Here's an example, User A posts a thread in discussion board, when the right place for a thread of that nature is Rapid Threads. User B posts in that thread and tells User A that such threads belong in Rapid Threads. (this scenario applies to both cases; whether User B links to a "source" or not) Now, if User B would allow a moderator to post instead of posting this himself, a moderator would move the thread to a new place, and say everything that User B could have said to "help" the OP in the first place. Therefore, reporting the situation, holding your horses and waiting for a moderator is more productive than jumping in yourself. User B is much better off helping the OP with his actual problem or concern that he made the thread for. Whether or not you have the sources doesn't help the case any more or less if you compare it to the situation of an actual moderator dealing with the situation.

i've never understood the whole "i'll move it for you" thing. also if the user posts in the wrong board is forced to wait for a mod to see the post and tell him to move it, the user might not recieve the info the user is looking for as quick

since there are alot of more people in the community checking out the forums the user will have quicker help

the only thing you basically said there is that by only allowing mods to help it makes it look cleaner and you can "move the thread" and tell them what they did wrong rather than letting them fix their wrongs themself

I let people backseat moderate in the discussion board. People develop a deeper understanding for the rules, the correct behaviour/conduct, and my job became much simpler because most things get sorted out by people involved. The only time I need to do something is when there is a disagreement what the rules are.
They make the same posts I'd make so there is no difference. vOv

Letting people use and practice their critical thinking abilities is the correct way to go about things imho.
oh look someone who's actually tried it and is seeing that it's working in a positive way
thank you redundant i like you

ok yeah lets just write the tests for the students in the future instead of letting them write themselves

your way of thinking is expecting everyone to understand just because you understand
redundant showed how wrong you are in that, since by his ways as an lmod he help the users get a deeper understanding for the rules rather than just have everything handed to them

please argue for why it isn't a better alternative rather than just stating that you think it isn't
and yes the lmod still has to delete the thread, so what? it's not only about how much work that is put in, but making them understand what's up
yet again you just expect things, think one step further please

and here you just expect the people who hang in, say the music board, to understand the problems of someone in another board like the games board

you're so close minded, if the person posts in the wrong place and wants help, isn't the quickest way for someone to tell him: "yo this is in the wrong place, according to the rules you should post it right here(link to source) instead. so that you will actually get help"

yeah lets just presume everyone in the community knows that IRC is the quickest way to get help that'll work. it's not like it's actually the best way to get response either since that place is basically a hellhole

hey good now it's easy to quote what you wrote

it's fine though i can pretty much sum everything you just wrote in a few sentences:
you have built an image of the community and have no reason of changing that image because it works for you
improving means trying new things and you're obviously not ready for it, and taking criticism from a nonstaff member equals you being forced to stand by the current rules
because hey, you can't just get bossed around by a normal member like that!!!

i've actually had a mod talk to me and basically thank me for my way of thinking after he tested it out, now it's all up to you other staff members to do whatever you wish
'u'
you understand where i'm coming from?..

you don't know where i've fucking been!!!
you don't fucking shut the and do the!
