Legalizing Marijuana
This has probably been discussed countless times, but let's give it one more go.

Should marijuana be legal or illegal?

Tobacco kills, and I don't think I've ever heard of marijuana being a cause of death. Although if abused, marijuana can tear apart families and therefore depression which can lead to suicide (generalizing).
But hey, even if it is addictive, slows down your thinking and is sometimes referred to as a 'gateway' drug, what you do with your own body is your own business.

Bah, I forgot to add how it would affect economy too...

Anyways, discuss.

People who enjoy them will obviously benefit from a legalization.

There are obvious disadvantages of legalizing marijuana. Chances are that more people will go out and try it out.
The question is if that is bad or not.

edit: I failed to read your post. Sorry. :P Shouldn't post in discussion when I am tired.

Maybe. But when things like this happen, it goes a ways to changing breaking the sterotypes.
Please stay on topic, that is marijuana.
If you want to talk about libertarianism feel free to create a new thread.
How are you?
It's not legal because of propaganda of the early 20th century.

Basically, US Government made it illegal to grow marijuana, which was used for many purposes (mainly "industrial" more than recreational : clothes, insulation, rich oil etc...) just when its "manufacturing process" became easier.
To industrially use marijuana you need to separate its pulp/flesh from the rest of the plant, which was only made possible by hand-work until some dude invented a machine to do it, in the early 1900's. It's precisely when the propaganda striked to forbid the growth of marijuana, lying and invoking absurd reasons ; like waves of people murdering their family for no reason but the use of marijuana (accross the US border of course, in Mexico) and such...

Why ?

Because oil, petrol and money. Marijuana becoming easier to process was a threat for the petrol industry, a risk of decreasing profit. Being a plant easy to grow anywhere (it's not called weed for no reason) on pretty much any soil, and rich enough to provide a good alternative to petrochemical industry, the oil lobbies decided to pull a few strings and financed a few political campaigns... when you have shitload of money and friends in the government, it was easy to block marijuana's industry.

And here we are, 100 years later, barelly aware about why a plant we've been using for thousand years is illegal... invoking hypocritical health issues while selling tobacco, alcohol, and chemical "medicines" 100x more addictive and dangerous than pot.

I don't know why you think this is "fine"... Being unable to control your mind and body is kind of a big deal.

It sounds like you never even tried it once. I've been smoking pot for about 10 years now, not excessively. I've never been "unable to control my body" or my mind. It sure gives you a different perception of things, but it doesn't causes a "loss of control" like alcohol does.

Plus, mind controlling sober is a bit overrated, I've seen some sober people going crazy over strong emotions, no need for drugs to lose control.
And on another note, your male brain thinks about sex every 4-5 seconds and you don't even know it, so much for self mind control.

From what I understand, you are putting smoking and drinking alcohol in the same league as using softdrugs like marijuana.

Tobacco and alcohol are drugs as well.

Let's compare consuming alcohol and smoking marijuana.
Alcohol is detrimental to your health when consumed excessively. When used moderately and thoughtfully, it will not have long-lasting effect. Neither will marijuana, but here's the catch.

A beer or a glass of wine, or even two or more will not have the same effect as quickly.

Wrong, that's making the assumption you can't use marijuana "moderately and thoughtfully".

I've been smoking for a long time, and I've been cutting my consumption down a lot during the past couple of years. You can choose the amount of pot you put in a joint, or smoke one joint and take breaks, making it last longer instead of smoking it like a cigaret. You can share a joint with your friends, the more you are the less you smoke etc...
Plus you'll never "suffer the same effects" of alcohol by smoking pot, as you'll never "suffer the same effects" of pot by drinking alcohol. They act differently, they are different products, they have different effects.

Alcohol is not as addictive as marijuana. You need higher doses to suffer from the same effects as from a single joint. If you smoke a joint, you're gonna end up high or at least a little impaired.

And marijuana itself is not addictive. As previously said I've been smoking for a long time, and today, I haven't smoked a puff on a single joint during a week, and I don't feel any need to smoke one at all. Tho I smoke cigarets, but that's another story.

Another point about comparing alcohol and marijuana : alcohol is neurodestructive, marijuana isn't. THC (the pot molecule that makes you high) stays on your synapses but doesn't deteriorate their "structure", it takes a while but if you stop smoking it goes without leaving any damage, alcohol leaves irreversible damage to your neurones, it destroys them.

Alcohol is the real gateway drug and kills everyday.
Cigarettes are loaded with butt tons of side effects (lets not even start on that)

and Marijuana. The Effects and Side Effects WILL go away if you stop smoking all together.
You'll stop being slow minded or as the general populace thinks and your reasoning will comeback.

Alcohol on the other hand can drive you mad it eats away are your soul. The spirits quickly become demons if consumed frequently and we all know Alcoholism is rampant in the Amuricas, liver problems, it amplifies existing psychosis, self injury by falling, brutal fights and fishflop falls after someone has been punched. None of this happens around weed. The Weed surrounds these problems and because it's the illegal one. Th people blame it before the alcohol.

Over here right now. We're getting another chance at legalizing it. It's gunna rake in some cash for some cool city projects and parks I hope.
Trust me. I seen kids in my shit highschool who could learn high better than drunk. I've had my fair share of getting drunk during school and has effected my learning for those days and maybe the day after if I got wasted, but I've smoked almost every single day during grade 8 to 12 and never has it affected me like Alcohol.

I don't trust the first link
The second didn't quite take into account eating habits and lifestyle which could also attribute to stroke and the other said they couldn't separate the tobacco smokers from the weed smokers because they all has nicotine in the system
The third needs more research
And the fourth is just the old mind power loss which is true, but wrong at the same time.
It's about the time when you start smoking. It's not like once, you're gunna go dumb. If you start at the age of twelve with absolutely no brain training like not paying attention in school or picking up a hobby then of course your thoughts are going to rot, but that being said. If you're already a full grown adult and had never or barely smoked before then this is ruled out, pretty much.

How many do you think are born in a fucked up life with a fucked up brain most likely and turn out to be complete ass holes in a the future? I know the world needs to keep spinning, but it's so unnecessary that this happens.
