I have played in game since 2012 so I'm going to present problems I see and a few solutions that would be easy to implement.
1. I have the in game funds and knowledge to go into beginner servers on an alt, teach beginners, and link them to forums and answer their questions. Honestly making the mods of the beginner sanctuary people who will put an effort into not only helping noobs who have already found the forums, but go in game and tell people about the forums would be a great improvement. If we stationed a few high level players in beginner rooms to answer questions instead of leavinfg them to their own devices, I think more people would make an effort to learn the game.
2. Alts are a big issue in game also, if I wanted to host a beginner tournament, half of the room would be full of 5th Dan-Master belts there for the small amount of tc I would be giving out. When you'be played for as long as I have you can identify an alt immediately, but we still can't do anything about it because they aren't breaking any rules by simply being on an alternate account.
3. Get rid of bots, hell get rid of fukes and nudges to 1 in bet servers. Anything to bring back the spirit of people interacting, instead of 4 people in a bet server playing and trying to decap while the other people in the lobby either complain or play other games while waiting for their turn. We need to repersonalize the community. I hate to say it but the old cliche of money ruining things is ever present in our community. The people who play to have fun and get better/ People who play for tc and to get rich ratio is starting to become imbalanced, and Gm's aren't doing anything about it. They are literally watching as alts and cheaters take over every aspect of the game, and everyone(that I actually know) is sitting in a bet server idle or a 3 person room idle, the only actual interaction in toribash these days is through either forums or Skype.
I think toribash is steadily getting worse just because of people like shmevin and shockey( I don't have a problem with either of them). People who use this game as a method of personal profit through rigging, scamming, and whatever else they can come up with makes the community less tolerable everyday. I'm starting to get tired of playing because half the people that are any good at this game sit in aikidobigdojo all day betting or dueling. And all the other ones are either sparring or dueling in boxshu mushu. The days of friends just playing for fun and everyone being friendly and playing FOR FUN seems to be fading. I guess you might say it's more competitive, and although not everyone cheats or rigs, it is more easily identifiable and equally as harmful because we have such a small community. It seems as if GM events, bet servers, and duels are the only reason people even go in game anymore. Also plenty of people(now) quit once they earn enough tc to sustain themselves, and tc seems like more of a driving force than to actuall get good at the game. The in game feel Is less community driven and more toxic.
For these reasons I think things like GM Lounge would benefit the community greatly. If we got back to just hanging out and playing some toribash, while discovering new mods, I think it would make the game more friendly.
I'm not sure what to do about alts, it isn't an easy subject, maybe creating more servers that seperate 2nd Dan's/ black and below, would discourage them, or make gmbets where you handout high qi(2k+) items as prizes for decaps/ trivia would make people come in on their main accounts.
