Robots are only capable of carrying out instructions coded into the robot, so unless we were to create some very, very sophisticated AI, a superhuman robot capable of overwhelming humanity's joint efforts to destroy said robot AND be stupid enough to do the previous two things mentioned, I severely doubt that robots could destroy humanity.

War robots would be made, then big powerful countries would attack each other, then maybe destroy a big mass.

As technology rises so fast, maybe the human would be able to do a robot that can have the power of a human brain.

For the people telling that there is no possible way this could happen, I advise you to read up on the Technological Singularity

Now I am not spouting "The world is gonna end, run for your lives!" bullshit, as this is merely hypothetical, but it is still a possibility based on something.
h
now im very good with pc and coding and stuff (not bragging ) so that makes me agree with Reshiss on this one to even get it to walk halfway well and not fall over would takes months if not years to code and to make it speak and think for its self is even harder that would defiantly take more than a year or two to develop even cortana on windows 10 is very complicated it took very good tech school graduates to develop it so probably not in this lifetime and like zelda said "Practically infinite computing power does not necessarily equate to consciousnes" and if there would be a robot that could do such a thing would be almost impossible because robots (at-least in this era) are not like the geth in mass effect 2 they cant just develop themselfs even with a human hand because they do not have like zelda said they dont have a conscious they cant just grow themselfs there must be human intervention somewhere meaning they cant takeover (in this era atleast)

splish splash Aeon is still trash
We know that consciousness emerges endogenously within our brains (it isn't some being 'beamed' into us from somewhere else). If we assume, and I think it's a safe assumption, that there is nothing magical about the software and hardware of our brain, then creating consciousness within a silicon brain is absolutely possible (and not at all ridiculous).
So far the only way a robot actually 'learns' is by doing an action and seeing if the outcome is good or bad. I feel like robots wouldn't ever gain REAL self learning because 'good' and 'bad' in a real world mean completely different things to people and aren't clear at all to programmed robots.

That is, unless there is some serious robotic breakthrough that I wouldn't have possibly imagined as I type this post.
FIRED UP
What do you exactly mean by this? Yes robots can phyiscally destroy humanity, under the control of someone, or something, whether it be a self improving algorithm or a physical being. The capabilities of power we can create have surpassed the grasps of human control, and so we have started (long ago) creating things that we can no longer put up a fight against.

But in theory channeling the question back and analysing it, robots cannot destroy humanity, because robots alone are just metal sculptures, incapable of anything without interruption from a living being, who then creates the unimaginably difficult string of code that would get a robot to 'destroy humanity'

But what is there to say they are not already, a robot is a a machine capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically, yes? So in effect, these self targeting missiles are robots, are they not, and they are destorying humanity, at whatever a scale. So does this answer your question? Yes? They already are?
From my point of view, machines can only do what they're programed to. If a robot has the ability to kill an human, someday it will happen. If a robot has the capability of making his own decisions(AI), he is capable of killing and spreading its will to other robots.

Not now but if some sick bastard makes such things, could bee.

But every code relies solely on decision making, based on inputted situations, for a code that tackles every situation, it would not only take forever, but it there would always be a loophole around it that humanity would have more than enough time to work out
Also I want to add this.

How USA will create war robots, if they are to kill people, well they will kill their own team and also hostages, If their robots could have a code that kill terrorists because of their clothing, well terrorist will use the same clothes as USA army.

Closing thread. It's gotten circular and very little effort is being made to move the discussion forward.
