Theres really not much to answer in that quote, its more a statement than anything else.

Having mod ranking in unranked places would be nice.

Not sure exactly how many there are, but more will be taken out (taido) than added in in the next system

No its not the same at all, the same tactic isnt always used, whereas in ninjutsu it is.

do determine the number 1 player of all toribash (that is the global rank afterall right?),
this is what i mean by no diversity, how can you determine the best player by so few mods?

You have missed quite a few, the rooms are in rotation, so there will have been mods out of rotation. In the next version there should be around 10 mods.

Since there are only 3 categories of mod, having 3 in one category is pretty much a given.

They are "competitive-ish" mods, they are what will determine the best player. How can you determine the best player using mods such as judo which has very little consistency between games and the best player wins 60% of the time or so?

Play ninjutsu =/= competitively play ninjutsu, the same for aikido.

What tactics do you mean?

Afraid I dont know all the mods off by heart that are ranked, you definitely miss taido2, im pretty sure there are more.

never said to use judo for competition, don't switch my words around, what i say is since they are not good enough for global at least give them mod rank.

What mods are you saying then? It was an example mod that would add "diversity" and not be competitive.

I said before mod rank would be nice, I dont know why youre telling me to add mod rank for mods such as this, I agreed with you and do not have the power to do such a thing

It doesn't take that many official servers to show off a mod. Just one or two public servers for a new and different mod, and it either picks up or doesn't. The question is, how are we going to get out new and interesting (competitive) mods to the public, if there aren't any official servers for them?

Yeah. Unless a mod gets exposure in official room for a while, it's almost certainly doomed to remain in obscurity for the rest of time. It will never develop a large player base, its own meta, organizations etc. Ranked mods today owe their popularity in large part to the fact that they were picked for official room by some GMs/admins long time ago. I'm not saying quality of the mod is irrelevant (some remain unpopular even after being official for a long time) but the spotlight matters a great deal.

That's one of the big problems here..right there.

When this ranking system was implemented, there was the need to do monthly tweaking, and even less IMO. If you have that much problem in approval honestly then I think it's a major problem, and a big waste of your time. There should be people given the authority to deal with this, and is obvious, there are people willing to deal with it. Just as GMs were doing a good job with mod rotations in the public room.

There is no right answer here, there is tweaking and experimenting until you find the perfect formula. If it takes you two month to get something approved then that's a major hurdle.

So yeah, the number of rooms should have been dealt with ages ago. It was clear as the blue sky that they were always empty. And, it's not a problem of player activity AT ALL. And it's not a problem of money as well, since there is an awesome reward.(although imo, it can advertised more and made more appealing, so it is one of the hindrances, people are not motivated to play in ranked servers, you need to REMIND people that they are playing some awesome tc..motivation)

Saying that, the problem is clearly with the number of rooms.

Although, as mentioned before, the MOTIVATION is not there. It's not appealing. I'm not saying I have an answer right now for it, but I bet there are a thousands of ways within TB means to do it.

Another minor thing with respect to the mods, it also has to be constantly tweaked. There is always evolution of mods..

The problem mainly is that GMs or whoever is in charge are so nice and want to satisfy the public. My opinion would have been to create to either set up a mod team, support them and pay them or whatever, and they would produce batches of competitive mods to be used. It's not rocket science either, the competitive mods are the easiest to make, they just require innovation in a few cases and tons of testing. So really in that case, you would have a batch of OFFICIAL competitive mods and the other scrubs/betters/whatever can have fun on unofficial servers. There is a certain degree of strictness that needs to be instilled. "these are the official mods, play them"

Of-course, I'm not saying don't take the thoughts of the community. Their thoughts matter specially the orgs specified for a certain mod such as TW(rip) and TA. These guys have years of expertise in this mod.

But, the mods have to come out of this official entity, and this entity will modify them if some advancement is needed. They'd have to require a good skill cap rate, and it doesn't have to be JOUSTINFUN. It's official, it should try and be as competitive, as objective as possible. The best guy who can handle his tori in this situation wins. There are mods today who are pretty much close to this level, but I'll repeat. It has to come out of an official entity, and it has to be organized.

But, yeah, I'm not optimistic about anything drastic happening. The whole administration if I may say have shown its total lack of coherence. GMs might set the rooms in a certain matter, and then hampa might pop up one day and change them cause he didn't like them. There is no clear hierarchy, no clear teamwork.

Although, I'll have to finish by saying that I appreciate all the work you admins put and go through for this community. You're doing it for free, and you're trying the best you can. So, cheers to you.

Sorry for rambling!

True that. That's why I used to love the idea of a this room which changes mods every week..a featured mod! There is also no need for more than a room, since I doubt more than one really cool mod comes out per week.

Good idea - I've made a new public server 'publicfeatured'

For now, I've stuck in Odlov's new mod messer_dq.tbm

If you have other suggestions for what could/should be the featured mod, make them here!

Like moop just said and did,it is a good idea to make a trending mod
public server, and if the mod catches on then it gets ranked

not ranked. A public lobby, there is a big difference - public lobby is purely for fun, ranked is about the mods that are best suited to finding the better player. Mods in featured will not go straight to ranked if they are popular
