tekkit is 1.2 whereas feed the beast is 1.4 minecraft

Plus Ftb is supported by minecraft so tekkit should die away soon any way

Yeah they each have their good/bad points I guess. Tekkit is too overwhelming for me lol. But Ftb has the twilight forest portal to an awesome world with new mobs and all sorts of things. It also has mystcraft which lets you go to different alternate dimensions/worlds and eventually create your own dimension/world.

i know 3 servers (2 are whitelisted) and 1 is public

Try "/Gamemode 0(SURVIVAL) 1(CREATIVE)"
OR "/Gm 0 / 1"
Some servers use "/Changemod Survival/Creative"
And "/Creative" "/Survival"
