What weird judging tonight... As usual

Won my multi off two robberies though, got Justin Tafa, derrik Lewis, Jon Jones, Valentina, and trevon giles for a $300 payout which im pretty happy with.

I think Reyes won 3-2

Nice payout Jobo.

I had Jones 48-47. People seems to forget that octagon control and aggression/forward pressure plays a part in judging when rounds are close. Round 1, for sure, goes to Reyes. 2 and 3 were close imo, could go either way (but Jones was advancing the entire time and commanding the octagon). 4 and 5 goes to Jones, clearly.

I can see why people reckon 2 and 3 could easily go to Reyes, but the number of strikes you land isn't the be-all and end-all of judging (or even the be-all and end-all of striking). I'll also note that Jones strike percentage was higher (and strike defence). What is 'effective striking'? It's certainly not just total landed strikes.

Personally, I'd give Jones rounds 2, 4 and 5.

Man, that was a great main event. Just finished watching it, I thought Reyes won 48-47 but I'm not gunna argue with anyone who thought Jones won. I love that kinda fight!

From how his last 2 fights have gone, anyone else got a feeling we're gunna see him dethroned real soon? Starting to think a move to HW wouldn't go as well as I previously thought it would.

I have also decided that Valentina is the female Demetrious Johnson. Both in her fighting ability and how her total dominance means nobody will ever care about her fights unless she finds a decent (and charismatic) rival.

They definitely need to sort out this judging system, SOMETIMES moving forward counts, SOMETIMES takedowns count, SOMETIMES aggression counts ... Reyes was for sure more aggressive

If the roles were reversed, as in Reyes did exactly what Jones did and Jones did exactly what Reyes did... I'm sure Jones would have been the winner

I had dom winning rounds 1-3, octogon ctrl and pressure shouldnt count more than damage dealt imo. cant argue because in the ufc if you want to win against a long time champ it has to be a decisive decision to outclass them or ko/tko. Reyes showed that although he’s still fairly new to this he can hang with the best in the world. great job on his part, he can only get better from here. your only loss is to the goat, not bad hes the future, gotta fight some more top guys and get back in with jon
Yeah man, can't argue with that. I would be super down to see Santos, Reyes and Smith all fight each other. It's been so long since the top of the LHW division has been so dang good.

On aggression, does simply throwing more punches mean aggression, or does pressure have anything to do with it? Jones had some crazy pressure in rounds 2-5.
On SOMETIMES, it really depends on the judges doesn't it? Sometimes you have judges that award a lot of points of pressure/control time/takedowns, sometimes you don't. You can 'generally' get an idea for how the main event will be scored by watching how the previous fights on the same night were scored. But yeah, completely agree that there's no standard across events. The current system is so open for individual interpretation it's crazy.

They ought to experiment with more judges. Have 5 judges. I reckon it would round out shitty decisions somewhat.
Verdict mma should control the out comes, it's a global scorecard. It's a awesome Instagram page/ app / website you should check it out if you haven't.

Latifi got more control and takedowns than derrik but Derrick won, Jones Got more control and takedowns than Reyes but jones won, the goddamn judges judge the mma fights on boxing score sheets for God's sake... It's a joke
Pretty excited for this weekend, my trainer and a couple others from my gym are fighting on the eternal mma card (day before ufc, you can watch on fightpass if you care) that im going to then the next day I'm going to watch Hooker, Kai and Brad from my gym fight at the UFC Auckland. Going to the after party aswell, gonna be a rough Monday at work (UFC is on Sunday here)

Do you guys care much for this card? Brad and Hooker are absolute beasts, Kai is very skilled but he's like a bit physically disadvantaged and small unfortunately, but I'm sure he will perform well.
Totally into the next card: possible next title contender? I’m expecting a balanced match.
Post some pictures of the event if you can!

Wilder vs Fury 2? Anyone??
Wilder vs Fury was epic. Loved it.

Tyson Fury is my favourite boxer ever, I think. Not the best ever, but definitely my favourite <3

All hail the gypsy king
