Maria corina machado (imo) is a shill and a government pawn/asset, Trump is surprisingly in part, correct, in saying people don't respect her and has no influence. I'd say she has lost like 70% of her previously huge approval rating in these past 2 years that she didn't do shit in and her supporters aremostly the (albeit huge) old population who tend to be much less cynical but consequentially much less analytical of the whole political paradigm here, I'm honestly happy she's getting no attention.
As per the specific act of presenting the Nobel to Trump, it was welcomed here with a lot of ridicule and frankly it was an extremely shameful sucking up act to see if she got some leverage into being transitioned into power as per her plan with fellow puppet and prospect gerontocrat, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia. Not much to say about her trying to appease trump who frankly doesn't care about her and meeting was mostly a formality seeing how Delcy (acting president rn) is the one dealing with the likes of the
director of the CIA
What I think will happen regarding the transition of power is that after the 6 month (need to confirm but pretty sure it's 6 months) window of transitional Delcy Rodriguez presidency, there has to be elections called. I however probably pose that there'll be some sort of state of exception in which there could not be elections if the US is happy with how the dealings are going on regarding oil and rare earth exploitation and the like.
Very very funny to see Maria Corina give away what probably was a badge of huge honor for many Venezuelans, most probably abroad as I usually say, who tend to live in sort of a parallel reality regarding Venezuelan politics and that's why you'll see differing opinions on this sort of stuff. She was like the last bastion of hope for the existence of something that opposes the evil forces of Chavismo lol it's all pretty cartoon like and villain-like but it's what we've got.
To quickly update in the situation, nothing's much gone on publicly. The US has good gas prices and they're making a fuss about it, there's a lot of movement within the oil sector over here, I live in an oil town (next to the refinery in a residential camp made by the US for workers in the idyllic 1960s) and yeah they're definitely going to be revamping the old systems which were super obsolete as I've heard of trucks and new gear being transported in, as well as just generally injecting money into the economy which at the very least is incredibly helpful for the people who had to struggle to make ends meet (although we don't have famine like we used to 10 years ago). Supermarkets are stocked but they have been for years, parallel money system still works, albeit the bolivar is actually appraising which is a HUGE shift in the usual philosophy, and that makes food super expensive due to how people are so used to hyperinflation that they just instinctually raise prices without noticing that the bolivar is worth more than it was a week ago. Wild to see it go from 550Bs per $ to 400 this morning in a matter of a couple days.
And in a personal note, I'm absolutely stoked and happy with what's been going on so far. Not because of stability or being supportive or any government, but as some of you may know I'd been working for years on a fashion brand that encapsulates and satirizes these cultural elements. I spent over a year just paralyzed due to news I'd see of people being thrown in jail for 10+ years for something as simple as printing a photo of a Chavez statue being defaced on a T-shirt. My designs are very political and albeit tend neutral, it all depends on perception.
With political prisoners being released and the government taking a much less dictatorial stance I finally feel safe to keep working on the brand and eventually drop it in the upcoming weeks at most.
Currently working on the site and I'll start selling exclusively caps to test the waters, but I'll add a preorder function for the clothes while I get production sorted out as I had frozen that process for almost 2 years so I need to get back into the flow state.
As always thank you all for reading guys fr like I do these explaining posts mostly to vent and give my opinions without the fear of being persecuted, even though most of my takes aren't fanatical and incendiary I'm sure you all understand the fear that comes from living under a dictatorship for so long and at the same time being a person who cares deeply about social issues and political fanfare. Thanks for checking in on me and asking me stuff it makes me feel much more normal being able to express myself about these situations and have people actually understand what's going on
