It's a long shot, but it makes sense.
Again, that same peer pressure effect. It's an awesome motivating force. Seeing Bob and Maggie's fit bodies will push Cindy "the 260 pound 7th-grader" to get her ass on a treadmill so she can compete with other girls. Clothing hides the results of sitting on your computer chair and eating hot pockets all day, and thus hinders your motivation. Yes yes, bad genes contribute too, but you get the point.
I'm not trying to say i know for certain, but i think it would have effect in the long run.
