are you serious with that?..because that is just stupid.
ugh...I know its only feeding the fire...
But are you fucking kidding me?

That cartoon was run in the New York Post earlier this week. Not only was it run at the beginning a presidency that has been summed up by nearly every cynic alive as "yeah well, he will be shot anyways", but it was run about a day after Pres. Obama had signed off on the new stimulus package.

Here is the papers defense..."It was meant to mock an ineptly written federal stimulus bill. Period,"

So yes, are you fucking kidding me!? I want to vomit all over the New York Post. They also say the cartoon "broadly mocks Washington's
efforts to revive the economy". If it were really "broad" wouldn't it have been more than one monkey? Or couldn't they have thought up a better metaphorical creature?..Its being shot by two white cops for fucks sake!..

This story is even shittier when you learn that a few days before the cartoon was published an old woman had her face chewed off by another old woman's pet chimp. I don't know if the paper has tried to swing that fact in its favor. But honestly is it really any better to make a cartoon based on an old woman being malled by a chimpanzee during her golden years than it is to make one with severe racial overtones?

Im sure all of the questions I would ask about this have already been asked and answered, so Im not going to make this any longer than it is, but christ, I had to say something.

If you see a New York Post on a park bench or something, take a leak on it.

to really get why this is such a terrible thing to do you have to understand Americas history with Racism and how sensitive people till are to it.

@chac, I see your point, but also at the same time if that is true the people at the post should have had the foresight to see that this would be taken the wrong way. When you are a part of the media, there is supposed to be a certain amount of dignity and responsibility to the things you do.

imo it was either a direct racist statement, or just a ploy to get attention. Honestly I would probably respect the racism more than the attention whoring.

Now, I'm not saying that the cartoon isn't racist. Who knows, maybe the writers are some of the heads of the KKK. I'm just saying, it's at least a little racist to think this cartoon is racist, if that makes any sense at all.

Oh wow. Let me guess, you don't see color? Acknowledging a persons race is not racist. In fact, totally ignoring a persons race and or culture is in my opinion far more disrespectful.

The sad fact is EVERYONE is a little racist...at least a little, and its mostly just fear and misunderstanding. But to encourage that, with a picture that is indicative of something that has happened way more then it should have, well that's just a bit sick.

Im sorry guy, I don't know you, but your post is a bit backwards.

I said white officers because they are depicted as white people. If I wanted to be racist about it I would have called them Jews because they have big noses.

And just so you know Im the only one who see's a problem with this. There is a boycott on the post atm.

Since Pangea broke and the world was divided into continents. People in different parts of the world developed different hues.

White cops have shot far too many black people. Look it up.

You obviously do not understand political cartoons and or satire.

Its backwards because you are calling me a racist. Yes, I do believe that everyone is a little racist. But to try and flame me because I am attempting to make a point about something I feel to be wrong is just sort of backwards imo.

White people are people.

Look, I understand that you have pure intentions here. But the fact is you are missing the point. I am offended by this, because it is wrong.

The type of outlook you are suggesting is naive.

If the cartoonist had meant for this to be seen the way you are suggesting, he could have taken steps to be sure it was not misinterpreted. He could have put a sign around the monkeys neck that said "congress: or he could have given one of the officers are bit of shade (but oh noes! that would be racist to acknowledge that there are black people!).

EDIT: I will no longer give you the time it takes to separately quote your response. Just a heads up.

I understand your point.

Thank you for admitting that.

And that's really why it has been viewed in such a negative way. Mistakes DO happen, but to say that the cartoonist, the editor, and who ever else may have had to sign off on this before it was printed just "messed up" or "didn't know" I a pretty lame excuse.

As an update, it seems Al Sharpton wants to get the government involved. As much as the cartoon is stupid and disgusting, I am probably going to sound like a hypocrite and say that the government should be left out of this all together.

Good good. Okay, I understand our country's history with racism quite well, and I also understand that people are way to paranoid about it. Every little thing is taken as racist. Monkeys are symbols for more than just black people, they can also just represent stupid people. And it is common practice in political cartoons to use one figure to symbolize a group of people. And also, the American public immediately attacked the bill, hence the shooting.

Also, by "the American people", do you mean most of the GOP and FOX news?

rofl at the pic. On topic, I mean the GOP and also quite a few libs.

lol, Thank you for your clever post of four words that magically inspired everyone else to post their opinions. Certainly without you, and your ingenious word play of "Fuck up eh?" this thread would have shriveled and died. In fact I think from now on I will also post the exact opposite of what I believe, in order to stimulate discussion, and then, after everyone "shuts up" will reveal my true plan. The fact that your revelation came directly after a post of one of the possibly 4 girls in the community is just coincidence I am sure.

Anyways, moving along.
The reason I haven't posted is because I figured the issue to be over and done with. I have a fever at the moment, so I wont get too into this post, but I feel it is important to note that throughout history in America monkeys have been used as a derogatory symbol of black people. I should have said that in my first post, I messed up in assuming that younger people would know of things that havent been as well known during their lifetimes.

LadyDeath, I understand what you mean, and I can see how it probably looks racist to find undertones of racism in wholly neutral places. However, I do not, as well as many other people do not, think for one second that this cartoon was made in a neutral, or even ignorant state of mind. Even if it was, if the cartoonist really did mean it to represent congress, or if they also were unaware of the comparison of monkeys to black people in racist propaganda, they should have had the foresight to see that this would cause a whole world of anger and hurt feelings. Ambivalence and ignorance are not valid excuses when someone is placed in a position like that of the staff at The Post. If this had been some rag that nobody reads, than it certainly would not have caused such problems. But the post is a pretty big entity and is widely read.

On a final note, while I love the show, please, for your own sake, do not turn to southpark for moral guidance. Its a smart show, don't get me wrong, but the people who created it are in no way qualified to speak on half of the issues they try and deal with.
