Thoughts on the Texeira vs Smith fight? A lot of people are outraged that the corner didn't stop the fight. Bisping went as far as to say that "We (MMA) need to catch up to boxing in terms of stopping fights."

I'm always a bit confused when the corner is in the firing-line for not stopping a fight. Is that not the ref's job? I think there are exceptions, like when Rocky Pennington told her coaches she didn't want to go out for the 5th round against Nunes - stuff that the ref doesn't know about. Smith didn't ask his corner to stop the fight and the ref knew that his teeth were being knocked out too (Smith even handed the ref one of his teeth mid-pummelling).

I'm not saying that it was a good decision to let the fight continue on to the 5th round, but why is the corner getting all the heat for it rather than the ref?!

Idk I mean it's what the fighters sign up for and they will always complain when it gets stopped but damn lionheart got thrashed kinda feel bad for him but I'm also not really a fan

Well, it was a bit of a weird one cus Texiera wasn't really 'putting it on him' when he had him down on the ground. It was a sustained beating yeah, but not many of the shots were particularly impactful, and when an impactful one was landed, Texiera reverted back to controlling him with his grappling.

That said, bit concerning if, like you said, Smith handed the referee his teeth mid-pounding. I think everyone's to blame for this fight. Smith's corner (for not throwing in the towel), Smith (for gassing himself out), Texiera (for not just unloading on Smith to force a stoppage) and the referee (for not recognising Smith was done). A cavalcade of shitty decisions lead to this weird outcome.

yeh, I'd agree that some blame is to be shared among everyone. Was just very confused why the corner was getting all the flak but I barely saw anyone criticising the ref.

Reem gunna Reem. I just wanna see him go to Rizin for the return of Ubereem. Regardless of the outcome, Walt Harris has been looking damn good recently. Quite surprised to see he's 36 - I had assumed he was younger than that. Not sure how far he's realistically gunna go in the division but man he's fun to watch.
