it actually has changed though. at least the last time i checked, there were channels where all staff could talk to each other. those things got more organized once everyone moved to discord
back in the irc days, yeah, it never worked. there was the lmod channel or whatever that was supposed to be used for that purpose and i swear to god i mustve seen 10 messages being sent there throughout all of 2016

the "screening process" is very barebones though, i agree. if somebody has been infracted recently it'll be brought up, if somebody has a negative reputation it'll be mentioned, but at the end of the day it's all entirely subjective. i think somebody thats never been staff can see that too, considering that we've had many mischievous users that ended up getting staff at one point or another
i also agree w the points abt circlejerking bc it happens every single time. i feel like the circlejerkish nature of staff can give some of them this very specific brand of arrogance, the same type of smug attitude that's passed on from member to member like generational trauma. i can't really explain it, it's just somethign that u have to witness. and im not just shitting on everyone while excluding myself here; i was like that as well and its very stupid!!
