imo the most underrated and misunderstood replay concept.
What makes a good tricking replay? For those of you who think tricking overall sucks as a replay concept, why?
Is BNT.tbm a viable way to make replays in your opinion?


I've been living under a rock for the last couple of years. Last time I checked a lot people weren't fans of tricking replays and bnt was really looked down upon, though a lot of people have started making them. Has this changed as of late?

as much as ive dunked on tricking in the past, stylistically it’s the most satisfying, rewarding, and impressive form of replaymaking in terms of just sheer raw movement

the problem with tricking for me is that it’s pretty difficult to go avant garde with it without looking like shit, and I think bnt kinda unlocks styles of movement that aren’t possible in a typical tricking environment, which for me, allows a lot of people to get more creative with it

I view it like b-boying, power moves have their place and it’s visually explosive and spectacular, but I love style heads that do these amazing sets with moves I’ve never seen another human being do

bnt overall is just more fun, it's more free to do random without the spin limitations and with the friction bs you can pull it again, is just more fun to play around with

flow/complexity/creativity, i dont really care about realism though its neat when i see some hyper realism striking n stuff, the people who solely dedicate and focus on realism are kinda missing the point of toribash imo, why limit yourself to a clean af backfull when u can do like a 14,440 cork snatchcannon swingthru rodeo in one jump yk?

The issue people have with bnt is the fact that on paper it can be used to do things that are otherwise impossible in xspar, but in practice it's just used to do the things you could do in xspar but much easier (and it can also look really fake sometimes lol). Not many people are legit using bnt like the creative tool that it could be (i'm not saying no one is btw)

Tricking is fun and cool, I like making tricking replays even though I'm a bit shit (I'm a ukebasher) but following the widely accepted rules of tricking helped me to understand the perspective of tricking replaymakers and the workflow of making a tricking replay directly improved my ability to optimize my decisions in ukebash to the point where I can make full replays without editing now if I take it slow

I think what makes a good tricking replay is trying to move away from doing things you've grown really comfortable to doing. You don't need to be avant-garde or unrealistic to be creative and have interesting tricking replays. Being super clean at doing flips and corks is cool and all but those are only fundamentals being able to deviate from typical things while making it still adhere to commonly understood tricking rules is the "endgame" so to speak, in my opinion. Like at the point where you look like you're gigatrolling but it still looks good. Limiting yourself is not a restriction born from "realism" it's a restriction born from a lack of creative ability seeing it otherwise is just cope imo

bnt is valid, it's just seen as crutchy the way it's currently being utilized

What is bnt? Any example mods / replays would be great.

what i mean by rewarding is that i think a well crafted tricking replay has the most labor -> product efficiency than any other form of replay making, at least within the context of JUST the movement of the tori


i think ukebashing is more rewarding overall because ive literally spent multiple days working on and off on some boomhits and when you finally hit it with the right ghosting its fucking glorious and imo nothing in the game beats that feeling


the impressive part may just be my lack of experience in tricking but i find it harder to maintain solid form and flow while constantly transitioning into set ups and the actual tricks themselves than anything else in replay making, taken at face value

personally I lob when tricking replay has lot of creativity and uncommon tricks/transitions/setups and stuff and one of tha main things I think for me is flowinggggg I rlly like when the DOM is smoothhhh hmmmm and I think also some character, even as simple as moving head as if tha tori is actually looking at wat doing mhmm mhm.

I thinks bnt is viable for sure, I don't rlly try it much but my thought process when viewing xspar vs bnt tricking rpls only differs slightly as mostly looking at flow and creativity kinda stuff not how hard it is to do and stuff mhm.

Personally tricking has always been the most boring form of toribashing. You see the problem is that there is no bashing.

If the tricking does not end in damage to uke what is the point?


I do enjoy a parkour course tho so idk why I like that but not tricking.
