America gives you the opportunity to install yourself a new president and then says good luck

I guess you're probably being sarcastic lol usually US-backed invasions end up with installed puppet overseer who usually for some reason ends up being dictatorial and sometimes even more cruel than the overthrown gov, but again this is probably a joke so I don't think I have to talk about the monroe doctrine and operation condor and shit like that you're a really educated guy

Anyway I'm going to rant

basically what we now know is that Maduro indeed was captured and is currently in NYC on charges of mass scale narco trafficking conspiracies and shit like that - this is obviously true and everyone knows that Venezuela is indeed a kleptocratic narco state in which the main source of income was drug peddling, mostly if not exclusively cocaine being transported worldwide thanks to diplomatic immunities and the like, so this is right on the money, frankly.

Trump has stated that the US is going to run things in Venezuela for a while until there is a democratic transition that they can legally advocate for - so apparently Edmundo and Maria Corina have tough luck and won't be the puppets to be installed. This US-running-things facade is angering because the government is still intact. The powers and the armed forces are still deeply entrenched Chavistas in power and NOTHING has virtually changed, really.

YOU CAN'T GO OUT AND CELEBRATE IN A PUBLIC DEMONSTRATION BECAUSE YOU WILL BE ARRESTED. THEY ARE CHECKING EVERY PHONE THE POLICE COMES IN CONTACT WITH.

I'm seeing SO much disinformation that it's been boiling my blood all day. SO MANY of my friends abroad are clownishly parading themselves in a victory lap that is non-existent. Maduro gave himself up, most probably under a negotiation as he, one day before this happened, had publicly stated he was down to negotiate. You infer the outcome.

What's going on in Venezuela rn is a death silent country that is deeply afraid and traumatized and cannot go out and celebrate the toppling of anything since this was just swapping the cherries on the shit cake, but the cake is still there, reeking. This means absolutely nothing in regards of the day to day Venezuelan citizen life, only the people abroad are blinded by hurt and are celebrating that they'll "soon be able to come home" but there is 0 talk about future plans regarding Venezuelan policies or economic changes that are detailed and truly fleshed out.

Why did this happen? Obviously I can't know for sure but it probably has to do with Venezuela having uranium that they most definitely traded with Iran as well as producing and procuring war drones for Iran, as well as Venezuela claiming since decades ago part of the Esequibo region in which the largest oil reserves were discovered just a few years ago. I've spoken about this in the thread I'm sure. Apart from this, Trump wanted to bring Maduro down since a long time ago because of his close bonds with China and Russia which practically own a large part of Venezuela at the moment, in concessions like mines and oil operations.

Me personally I'm in my island apartment with my family we were luckily together due to the holidays, but I am super fucking angry at the fact that all my friends abroad are swallowing this bullshit "Venezuela is free" pill that at the moment does NOT exist. Maduro is down, but this just makes the government potentially much more radical and much more stern in their show of force towards the people.

I don't fear a war with the US, that would be done in seconds as the US has much stronger military capabilities and would be an Israel-Palestine situation. I'm afraid for the economy defaulting, people being unable to buy food, going hungry again like I did in 2016 where I had to do 24 hr fasts to make ends meet food-wise. I fear the repression of not being able to go out due to being harassed by police, and even the possibility of being forcefully drafted to die off in some jungle for ideals I don't support.

Before someone says as it always happens oh why don't you defect why don't you flee - apart from airlines being blocked and even getting back to the mainland in my island case is impossible due to the ferries being also blocked off, this is out of the question as I don't want to leave my country so I really have no issue with toughing it up and living it down, just giving this disclaimer to avoid the same comments of escaping the country.

The US-hating comments, eh, who cares? United statesians really don't tend to know much about foreign policy regarding such a nuanced country as is Venezuela so it's whatever, the radical and inflammatory comments are all performance stemming from ignorance so I don't waste time on it, I don't hate the US and I don't want to see the flags burn or y'all bombed

If any of you gather something from this, know that the happiness you see in social media is mostly people outside of the country who, albeit we ALL have waited for this moment where Maduro finally is taken down, what has happened is like someone taking two steps in a marathon and claiming to have first place, there's still so much to do and the people inside of the country, like me, cannot even make our opinions public due to fear of repression, and seeing so many people abroad celebrating hurts me deeply because it just shows how little people actually care about what's going on. Nobody cares about our voices being choked, they only want to post the cynical happy instagram story where they're like flipping maduro off or whatever, no matter what's going on in the country.

I do appreciate the good comments and the good luck wishes, honestly, if you're religious in any sense do pray for us as a country and for me and my family. I'm scared shitless for the future.
I really appreciate hearing how it is for the people in Venezuela, you were the first person I thought of Alejandro when I saw that they captured Maduro.

Ye American interests always first this is probably about the oil and no guarantee of a better leader.

I just hope that the people of Venezuela be surrounded by strength and dignity in this difficult time. May families find relief from hardship, access to nourishment and care, and moments of peace amid uncertainty. Amen.

As I'm inept as it is with commenting on stuff like this I'll just send love virtually to you Ale, hope everything works out eventually and that your family and friends stay safe and well.

Keep it up man ily.
As you said, all vz friends abroad I saw, were extremely happy because it meant the end of ‘something’, but when the helping hand comes from the US, one never knows.
Also, that’s a great coincidence that it’s the biggest oil reserve in the world, but heh, there are not ‘good’ and ‘bad’ sides and never have been.
Hope everything takes the most peaceful and safest path, for both the Venezuelan people and LA as a whole.
Trump must be stopped, it's all a big smokescreen to cover up the (lack of) releases of the Epstein Files and all the other illegal stuff he's doing.

If things get worse and you ever need somewhere to go, you know my home will be always open for you and your brother, Ale. Yesterday they closed the BR/VZ border, but today it's open again.
You can count on me anytime bro, just drop me a line in WhatsApp, Instagram or even PM me here, I'll be checking more regularly.
Thank you all so much for the good wishes and kind words, most of you I actually speak frequently with so seeing you post here as well was cute, thanks for publicly supporting me as much as privately. I trust good things will come but knowing my history is what makes me fear that same future that so many are falling prey to illusions of

Just to update, for now basically nothing has happened, Delcy Rodriguez was sworn in as interim president (daughter of Jorge Antonio Rodriguez who's famous in Venezuelan history for being the perpetrator of the longest and most notably kidnapping case in Venezuela, the Niehous case; Delcy's also the sister of Jorge Rodriguez, the President of the National Assembly) and is allegedly on and off cooperating with Trump for a transition or whatever.

Trump said he's going to chuck 50 million barrels of oil towards the US at market price "to make sure both Venezuela and US benefits" etc etc just claiming a bit back from the expensive operations he had been doing for months over here

I frankly can't do much I'm just working on my stuff and keeping up slightly with the news, I don't want to become too invested because this feels like such a liminal point in history. Everyone is waiting for the next blow. It could be a victorious, happy, historic transition of power to leave the dictatorship fully finally behind, or it could be the start of a Kissingeresque carpet bombing campaign that ultimately ravages us even further down into economic oblivion and general crisis.

I'm good I want to make that clear guys, thank you all SO much for the messages and for being so respectful of the nature of the situation, lots of love for all of you
Keep your will strong and maintain your perseverance through smoke and fire, ash is not the end for the phoenix. May you and your friends make it through such hard times, we've talked plenty about the situation before and I know you can get through it Ale, tire those bastards out with your indominable spirit.
