Opera is a whole different animal than plays but wonderful in it's own right! Italy is the original inventor of opera! Italian opera is some of the best in the world. Like la traviata or barber of Seville or many more. It would be a shame to never see one if you're so close to the origin. Without subtitles it might be hard to understand though. But plays are different and enjoyable in their own right.
