Do you think it's reasonable to allow hospital officials to end someone's life at their request? Sort of like putting a dog which suffers from incurable condition down, but only with humans.

There was a case some years ago with a French woman Chantal Serbie, who got a very rare and particularly nasty form of cancer in her face, which left her terribly deformed, blind, with no sense of smell, and in great pain constantly. These are her before and after pictures:

She has pleaded several times to French government to allow her to "go gracefully" by some sort of injection in the hospital, but she was denied both times. After some months they found her dead in her apartment. She poisoned herself with some drug which was not even available in France, so i presume it was a hassle to get her hands on it.

So, what are your thoughts? Is it cool and peachy to end a human's life at his request? Is it immoral?

Personally i think that if the one requesting has relatives, they should have a say in it as well. If he/she can convince them to concur with his/her decision, then i say it's all good. Not including this stipulation would result in lots of troubles and lawsuits.

It's up to the patient in question, and, as stated before, should be determined by how painful low life will then be i.e. Some of has taken a little to many drugs and now feels depressed. When taken to hospital (Drugs are baaaaaad) they beg the doctor to kill them. An absoulute no-no

But in the case in the first post, a Death Doctor should be allowed to "Assist" them in choosing what they want.

It is not as simple as a yes or a no. Each individual case is different. If somebody is suffering constantly with no hope of recovery at his/her request they must end her life. One has the right to: Free will and rght over one's own body so therefore they must be able to end their misery. In other cases one may feel as though death is better because their illment has affected their state of mind. If that is the case is is the doctors burden to keep them alive. Now how do we choose who to keep alive? A doctor should nopt be in that position and it is unfair to force him into it. Therefore IMO it is unfair to the majority of the parties involved and one must do anything possible to prolong human life. Even if their is suffering they can make them as confortable as possible but one can not directally end their life.

Mental suffering and broken emotional state is no different from physical pain in my books. If doctors can fix it - let them do it. Otherwise....if no treatment helps then there is only one solution.

I too think that if individual is suffering/wants to die he should take it upon himself to do the deed, and not put the burden on someone else. That said, there are cases when he/she can't do it themselves for whatever reason (bed-ridden, for ex).

I'm sure I could.
After all, I'd be carrying out their will.
