Here's a situation
This story has sparked an idea for this discussion.

Imagine this scenario:

You walk down an abandoned alley and suddenly see some hooded teenagers (almost adults) laughing while stomping a 10 week old puppy to death. Let's also imagine you are very physically fit and well trained in hand to hand combat. Would you punish them? Would you "turn the other cheek" and disregard this behavior? Or would you leave it to the police (who, assuming they would catch them, merely give them some community service). Let's also assume that if you were to 'punish' them your chances of getting caught by police were very minimal.

As for me, i could probably take it as far as killing them both and sleeping soundly that night. Am i a sociopath? I think on the contrary.

Reason suggests that killing something as innocent and defenseless as a puppy is a manifestation of repulsively tremendous lack of compassion, which is most certainly detrimental to society. By aborting their existence i would more likely than not be making life better for the community. I would honestly feel much more guilty if i allowed them to repeat anything like it again.

Now you may ask: "but odlav, what about your own lack of compassion for those idiots?"
My lack compassion towards them is simply dwarfed by lack of compassion they have for other living beings. They are neither innocent nor clueless, and my actions would be (in my eyes) justified by redemption for repulsive act they've committed. What were their acts fueled by? Lust for fun? Curiosity? Stupidity? Neither is a very good reason.

Truth be told, i have far more compassion for humanity in large than a couple violent and dim-witted yobs who murder innocent defenseless animals. And i have all reasons to believe humanity would benefit from their deaths.

PS: If i didn't actually kill them, I would make sure they would never stomp anything again (like crush both of their tibias)

Let's assume you are very confident in your ability (eg you're a combat sambo/krav maga specialist and former SWAT member)

Well the puppy is dead, that's it. No hospital would help.
As for psychotic comment - that's ok, i expected some people to react in that way.

That's if it were in my shoes. If I were making a decision solely based on logic, I would call the cops and go on my merry way.

That's what i would have done too, if it weren't for my own life experience with those types of people.
Growing up i used to know a guy who tortured animals for fun. Threw frogs against the wall, inflated them with water, tied fireworks to kittens and so on. He was too young to get community service for it, let alone anything else. Me and my friends beat the shit out him when we saw him do it (on 2 occasions) but he never stopped.

Now, I know saying that all people who kill a defenseless animal fit his criteria is reckless, but...you know. I don't think my compassion for a fellow human would outweigh the compassion for the dog if i saw them torturing one while laughing. I don't think I would let them go....anywhere.

You "probably could" kill them and sleep soundly and such, but what you fail to see is that these kids are 99 percent of the time only hurting a smaller and harmless creature because they had the same thing done to them, Most likely from a father figure of theirs. If i found myself in this situation i would probably push them back, grab the most likely now dead animal, tell the kids that if they want to hurt something they should do it to whatever made them want to do this to the animal, than walk off to a veterinarian.

I'm 21.

I am deeply sorry if their upbringing has made them into monsters they are, but the fact remains...they are who they are, and there is little we could do at this point to correct them.
If we take that route we can just justify away every mass murderer and tyrant, by citing their poor upbringing and faulty genetics....

This is probably how i should have worded my actions ideally, but i wanted to take the most radical approach to spice this discussion up.

And what now? Are we to allow these people to spill their misery into society?
If they are broken in the head - fix them. If we can't fix them - isolate them. Can't isolate them - kill them.
Sory - c 'est la vie.

I myself am a determinist and i think each one of us (as well as our every action) is a product of unbroken chain of events and couldn't have gone any other way. However i don't think this can be used as an excuse for people like those. If anything, you can't blame society for finding them repulsive and hazardous, can you?

Haha, my thread just reminded my of Dostoevsky's Raskolnikov and his thoughts from "Crime and Punishment".
My justification has much more basis though, imo.

Killing them brings me nothing but experience in killing (which, from the givens, I probably have enough combat experience), and could land me in prison for three murders. At best, I could attempt to plead temporary insanity and be confined to a mental institution for a period.

Gah, i tried to emphasize the low risk of legal charges by stating that it's a "seemingly empty" alley, but i should have stated it more explicitly.

Let's not take it too far there :v

If i was to kill every "stupid" and "racist" person I'd likely wipe 2/4 of the planet's population.

I am normally fairly easy to get along with, but there are a few things that can infuriate me to no end.
Senseless cruelty to innocents is one of them. It's one thing if those people were starving and hunted that dog for their own survival, but this is different.

I can't believe the people saying that they are going to kill these thugs. Even if I was some rock hard badass I wouldn't kill the guys. Imagine what this would look like, a big guy standing there holding a puppy and three guys are dead on the ground, how are you going to get away with that? Oh they were kicking this puppy, I had to click their necks. In my opinion that's not a reason to kill three people. I would most probably shove them away from the puppy, and if they started something then there is a reason to deck some cunts.

Killing an animal to support your own nutritional demands is a bit different from killing an animal for fun, especially one so trusting and harmless.

All the time I would hear crashes and bangs, sometimes even screechs. One day after school my parents were gone for whatever reason and I heard a sudden crashing and some odd screeching noises. Interested I opened the door quietly and there was George at the end of the hall beating a trapped kitten. The feeling of rage that under-came me is un-explainable, I ran grabbed my brother's metal baseball bat opened the door and swung at him. He was taller than me so I just aimed for his ribs, knocked the wind out of him. I took a step back and at that point he was crouched over so I aimed for the back of his head. Knocked him out on the spot. I then just proceeded to grab the kitten, and ran into our room and slammed the door. I called 911 then my parents, if your wondering the kitten ended up being fine and George was arrested for animal cruelty (Police found 2 dead cats in his room.). I even got to keep the kitten, he's alive to this day. If you absolutely need pics I'll go find a camera and get a timestamp for you.

Haha great job. I hope the inmates knew what he was there for and gave him appropriate treatment.

Imho, the only excuse for killing is to save an innocent live. The puppy just wanted some love man.

Doesn't puppy count as "innocent life"?

Honestly, even a strapped muscleman with a short fuse wouldn't be stupid enough to risk imprisonment over the life of some stray dog that will die on the streets anyway, more likely than not.

People, animals.....all animals.
Overall I do value human life more, mind you, but this value varies greatly from human to human. When i see people as rotten as those my value for them drops way below my value for that dog.
As for imprisonment, i should have probably made it clear that you had very slim chances of getting caught. I'll add that stipulation in now.
