What is up with the hole in the ceiling , and the grey floor way to the side ?

i've seen the black sun thing above them, i noticed when i saw the reflection on the ground, but i never thought you could go above it >.>

Ya know how the floor color is gray at some extent in shaders? Its probably something just to give it it's gray color and make it look better.
