Decline in Music
I've noticed that music these days isn't as good as it was years ago,and I'm sure you have noticed too.Do you think this decline is caused by the promotion of not so skillful musicians or the lack of talent these days.Music is turning into prostitution in my views,even beyonce Who I thought had some talent.
I can see the steady decline in music because most of it isn't really original anymore and ONLY trying to target a certain group of people for money. The Music Industry is Business and not anything else. Not many musicians make their own music as seen from Much Music saying "Also makes their own music" for some artists (if you can call 'em that), But it shouldn't say that because that's how it's supposed to be. Vocals contribute deeply into this decline I have never heard anything more generic than Billy Talents vocals seriously at school there are bands that are just as good, but I don't care because I don't like it.
About Metal now. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. The over use of Keyboards and and screaming/clean vocals that all manage to sound like Matt Heafy. The metalcore way of riffing is the worst and over done. If they stopped using the Harmonic Minor in E it would be kind of alright.
Whatever happened to bands that only had One or Two Vocalists, One Bassist, One or Two Guitarists and a Drummer? Now bands have to add the unnecessary keyboards to keep their sound fresh, but Nope it doesn't. It either ruins the whole atmosphere or it didn't even have one to begin with.
The production of All these 2000 albums are annoying. They need the rawness like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, and Protector had. Seriously albums don't need to be over produced and they definitely don't always have to recorded separately for each instrument.

I agree about genres,So I can say that rock has gotten less popular or worse I guess,and pop has flourished.

It would be great if people took their heads out of their arses and stopped acting like elitist pricks about music. Yeah, loads of good music was made in former decades by legends like Zeppelin, Hendrix etc., and loads of great music was also made centuries ago (music has been around for thousands of years, not just the 20th century, y'know?)..and guess what - there's still loads of good stuff coming through all the time - artists and bands are working their arses off making new sounds.
The 'charts' have been a load of crap ever since the concept was thought up. As for record labels - yeah, they *can* take some of an artists' personality away, but they can also facilitate the distribution of their work to your ears, and be a catalyst for the creative process.
The last 10 years has given us a LOT of really great music, perhaps more even than the last decade, and the amount of quality material being put out there has not decreased at all. Look past the lame explosion of 'glam hip hop' (basically a repeat of the 80's 'glam rock' era, by the way - for anyone thinking that the concept of image over substance is anything new), and you'll see that music is not declining. Not one bit.
tl;dr: most people in this thread are elitist posers who are just as bad as the 'style over substance' culture that they criticise.
