first of all, i think the main idea is good.
but im scared that judges will sentence even more people to death because they know it could save others.
AND with this, big money comes to the game, and anything connected to big money money gets dirty somedayXD

You should watch the movie "green mile" ;)

If i were on death row, i would much rather be hanged, or shot in the head, or stomped to death by midgets or have my head chopped off by guillotine than be electrocuted. Being fried to death while emptying my bowels uncontrollably just doesn't sit well with me.

When they are getting surgery for their organs being taken out, they are still pretty concious. A part of your mind stays concious even when doctors say he/she is unconcious.

What do you know about it?
I've been under surgeon's scalpel once, because i had peritonitis due to rupture of inflamed appendix (damn useless organ) and was an inch from death. I didn't feel a thing during surgery.

PS: technically, harvesting the organs of death row inmates is a very utilitarian solution, and could be a real way for serious criminals to redeem themselves in face of society. As in....take life - give lives to others.
My only concern lies with the potential abuse of this system and judges "rushing" people on death row.

Well your forced to donate your organs if you die in a car accident right? (maybe thats just in NC)
but either way it seems like a really good idea, but for the judging rushing it problem. How about they make it if the criminals want to, if not then they dont have to.

I have another question which sort of relates to the OP.
If you are a surgeon by profession and you were offered a well-paying job of removing the organs of inmates (thereby killing them) would you take it?

I am sure there wouldn't be any shortage of volunteers if this system was implemented - I'm just curious.

If I were a doctor, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing that I had purpousfully killed someone by removing their heart or other vital organs.

Understandable.

Really though, a surgeon is a mere cog in the conveyor of inmate's fate, albeit the last cog. The society has already decided that the man must die, and a surgeon with the stomach will be found regardless.

I've always wondered about how executioners (during French revolution, for example) must have felt, chopping heads of hundreds of people. Was it really executioners who were responsible for deaths, or was it politicians and revolutionists? I'd say it's the latter more than the former.
I would say that ulimately this is a good idea. Not killing criminals specifically to acquire organs, but consider the following:

-I am 99.9999% sure the crime the person comit to have the death penalty sentenced to him was a Felony. And probably one of the most heinous acts at that.

-Once commiting such a harsh felony, we lose many of our rights and liberties, such as the ability to vote

Wouldn't it make sense that the right to have a say in what happens to your body when you die could also be lost? This act could be just the criminals final act of repayment to the community for the acts they did.

Keep in mind: These people didn't steal a candy bar. They were mass murderers, rapists, abusers, and evils you can't possibly imagine. They aren't going to use their organs after they are dead either way. Part of the sentence could force the offender to be an organ donor. Killed many lives? Well: You're going to potentially save a few as part of your payment back to the community.

While I agree with IceShadow one can still counterpoint this post.

If they are muslims, then they died in sacrifice of doing their religious duty "killing people..etc.". So that wouldn't bring religious conflict. If they aren't, well then, the acts the did to get there will probably get them to hell either way no?

An interesting point squiziph, though I don't really trust the media, it's not rare for them to put spin on things or make stuff up completely.

I do understand though that this is still something to think about and look into, however surely living but changing a little is better than dying. If someone disagrees with this they aren't obliged to get a transplant either so...

Have you thought how much the organs themselves cost?
