Window VS Linux
I'm sick of hearing "Windows VS Mac" so let's try something different.

Me and my non-toribash friend was fighting over whats better Windows or Linux

But the funny part is he uses windows 7 :3

Whaaaaaat? That lacks sense of all forms.
Toribash has better shader support on Linux, not to mention that it runs faster. And yeah it's not been updated in a while but regardless WINE runs it without any issues - FASTER THAN IT DOES IN REAL WINDOWS. Fact.

Mmmm we've had a million and on threads like this in the past and they just end up being a rant of fanboys talking wallop about why what they have IS the best. >_>

Simply put there is no 'best' OS, but there are ones that suit different purposes. You want to blow your money on off-the-self shite you'll want Windows, other than that there's no actual reason for picking one over the other. Well, unless you're like me & want your machine to run 24/7 without having to restart everytime the OS has a hissy fit - that's something Windows isn't capable of.

I recently switched to Ubuntu. I am comfortable on a PC, but Im not exactly a pro or anything, and honestly so far I love it. Before this I recently switched from XP to windows 7 after years of using XP, and 7 just felt off to me, plus my computer (which is only a year old and has some decentish hardware in it) ran a tad on the slow side. With Ubuntu though I seem to get better performance, plus I dont need an anti virus, so woohoo

I love the philosophy and ideals behind Linux, and I love synaptic. It sucks I might not be able to run after effects any more, but eh, Im sure with enough work I could get it up (doubt WINE would run that) and honestly I will be fine without it.

So ye, Linux all the way. It is free, just as good, if not far better, than windows, and with Ubuntu you don't even have to know EXACTLY how to do EVERYTHING in a command prompt because they have GUI versions. Not to mention that it will only get better with time, and that every bit of progress is shared freely.

There is specific choises, there isn't what's best and what's suck balls.

Windows is generally multimedia management, comuter gaming, etc
Linux is for maximum safety web browsing, Dedicated Server hosting, maximum anti virus security, a cooler looking desktop that is more intuitive and versatile, a host of more supportive communities, better PC performance and even a good deal of free online multiplayer games etc...

I strongly suggest you take a step back and try to explain why you need to run a windows executable on a Linux system. Sure, you can run it with wine, but there's a strong liklihood that won't let you do what you want. Running under wine will only have relevance while that particular wine session is running.

well, I know with Ubuntu you can right click, go to properties, and select "allow executables"

Also DesiTwist, we would be running them for games. Also what do you mean "relevance for that particular session"? You can save in WINE...so Im guessing you mean something else.

Not really. 7 confused the fuck out of me after years of XP devotion. Ubuntu though is pretty intuitive so far.

I prefer windows because I am more familiar with this operating system.

that's the way most people would see it with any other OS as well

"i like windows because it runs exe's an stuff"

also, vmware > wine
You don't say?
