i cannot condone suicide as a viable course of action, nu-uh, noway. i have been on the brink of taking the easy way out myself (crippling depression over the shit state of affairs my entire life was in for close to 2 years) the temptation to give in was horrendous, but one thought always has, and always will sustain me through the shit times and it is that i cant bear to be beaten. that means that if i topped my self the world would have won....FUCK THAT!

This link contains information about pretty much every method of suicide possible. Why am I posting it? People who don't know anything about suicide and have not really had much experience with it (most of the people in this thread so far) in my opinion need to know how difficult a choice it is. It's not the "easy" or "cowardly" way out that most people think it is.

To be prepared to commit suicide you are preparing yourself for what is potentially the worst pain in your life, and you have to deal with the fear and the uncertainty of an afterlife, or lack of it. Look at the section on paracetemol. It's the most common method of suicide in Britain. To do this they have to go through nearly 2 weeks of fucking intense pain. Would you be able to cut through your own flesh to reach the femoral artery?

People who are able to do this because they feel as though it is the only way out of their situation are not cowards. It's not just a case of "sorting your life out", I don't think it's quite that simple. For things to get this bad with somebody's life, bad enough to leave behind your friends and family and go through the ultimate pain, it just is not possible to "just sort your life out". So ignorant. People like this need help, not a vague comment telling them that they need to improve themselves.

Indeed.
The fear of dying, coupled with self-preservation instinct, is strong. Confronting it isn't exactly the most cowardly thing i can think of. I believe the majority of people who commit suicide aren't "afraid" of life per say - they just can't outweigh the suffering it brings with pleasure, and see no compelling reasons to go on. Nevertheless, it is a selfish thing to do if one has people close to him.

There are miserable people who have no potential for future improvement, and live out of fear of death. Now, there is cowardice.
Nietzsche presented that sentiment nicely when he compared them to rotten apples who are too afraid to fall down.

At one low point in my life i also entertained the idea. Even did the research on most fail-proof accessible methods. I didn't commit to it more than that, though: it was just hovering in my mind as a possibility.
Then it all got better, and here i am, competing with all of you for resources

While i agree with your general notion about teenage suicide, depression at any other age usually has concrete external causes (a shitty life, usually). I don't know if pumping yourself full of happy pills is a solution.

Suicide is very illogical.
In my culture, suicide=hell, because god is the one who will take your life away at a time, but you take away your own life. Suicide usually is because people don't like how their life goes. This is typically when people are economically, emotionally, or physically depressed, then they ask themselves:
Why am I living?

I would never commit suicide if my life was good or bad. If I die or starvation, I die when my religion wishes for me to die.

I think suicide is something people get from depression when they feel poeple dont care about them. I remember when my mom died I was in deep depression and felt suicidal.

You have a warped definition of slavery, surely.
Living in a society, you have to compete for stuff which that same society produces. Goods. Services. Status.

Reality: men are NOT free in absolute sense no matter where they live or who they are. Whether it be in the woods or developed human society with it's greedy corporations and banks -- there are constraints everywhere. Out in the wild, you would not be free to go over there because it's grizzly bear's territory, and you would get torn to pieces. You also would not be free to access goods and services people produce. You would not be free to post on the internet. Or eat tasty food which you can't catch/grow/cook yourself. Or wear decent cloth. The list goes on.

You are free to become a hermit if you feel it would give you the freedom you desire so much.

And that's why you entertain yourself by posting on the internet.
Talking the talk, but not walking the walk.

and makes slaves of the- oooh pretty shiny internets let's slave away to maintain it instead of learning anything about nature, life, or love!

What nonsense.
Nature encompasses everything. Including our technology.
The computer you are sitting in front of is a product of nature, just like ourselves.

As for life and love....you think no one is learning anything about those two?
Or must one live in the woods and wipe his ass with a leaf to truly fathom those things?
