Habitable planets
Ever heard creationists talk about how miraculous it is that Earth is positioned just in the right place to allow life? Well, someone dun' goofed:

http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/ke...a_release.html

In it's short time in space, NASA's Kepler has already discovered 54 planets in our own galaxy (out of 100+ billions) which are positioned in what is known as habitable zone, or "goldilocks zone". That is the area around a star which is not too hot for water to evaporate, and not too cold for it to permanently freeze. Out of those 54 found, 6 are approximately Earth's size.

Pretty cool, huh?

The term 'Earth sized' planets can refer to planets many times larger, that are possibly not habitable.

What's the difference? Come on, impress me with your English skills.

Besides, being in the goldilocks zone is not the only prerequisite for life
For example a planet that rotated on its axis the same speed as it did around its star would be too hot/too cold for habitation.

Hurrr durrr hurrrrr duuuuuuur. Deeeeerp.
Kepler only examined a fraction of a sky. Imagine the actual numbers. I bet there are planets identical to Earth in composition, in our own galaxy no less.

Now we just have to quit being retarded (as a global society) and get busy making colonies and whatnot.

LOL! Yeah right. We're going extinct before we colonize shit, Gorman. Haven't you seen Idiocracy?

But its still great news, but don't oversell it, and perhaps stop using science as mere ammunition for your anti-religious crusades ok?

Nah.
Well, we once thought that water was an extremely rare liquid in space, it was not.
Now we think that life is super rare, which it is starting to appear it isn't.

Hmmmm. When I hear Earth-sized I imagine.....well, something the size of the Earth. I guess my brain is all weird.

I know, but we cannot colonise a planet we do not know about, right?

Lately I've been rather pessimistic about us colonizing any planet. And these ones Kepler found are too far for us to reach in the foreseeable future, so don't get all excited.

Hm? No, I mean, we spend billions of dollars on icecream, and spend more on McDonalds than on space programs. Even you can agree that is retarded.

T'was just a suggestion. It seems perverse, you and I both know that religion is just a comfort, so why seem so aggressive in you want to remove that comfort from lesser minds? Let them keep their comfort.

No, it's not just a comfort. I don't know about Australia, but in the United States it's also hindering the already pathetic scientific literacy: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0127141657.htm

PS: I wouldn't mind religion in the least - if it didn't hinder scientific education and/or civil rights.

Humans don't normally find it very troubling whenever a land they want is inhabited, so long as inhabitants don't have bigger guns.

Not 100%.
As mentioned earlier, lately I'm not very optimistic for future generations.

We know shit. As proven multiple times. Even while we discuss this we presume all, while we presume we speak bullshit. Universe and life in it is something that we understand just 1%. You answer one question, lucky that u are so smart, and then see that it was totally wrong and like 1 000 000 new questions arose.
Not an easy feeling that we will sooner be gone then ever be able to comprehend the ''big picture''. :[
