jusmi will be flattered
make some lava in between the cracks in the mouth to eccentuate the teeth and for the love of god antialias that shit
You're def on the right track. But i'm not gonna lie, i cheated a bit. I started off but painting in grayscale (just black and white) an continously added photo textures and painted over them.
The best way to create convincing craggy rock is to add depth, if you have a darker color set below a lighter color in a triangle shape, it will look a bit like a rock protruding fro ma cluster of rocks. Simple shapes is what it's about, and overlaying rocky textures for extra detail. Just remember to paint over them.
loving it sofar
try not to keep such clean lines around the edges and eyes, dirty them up a bit (dirty them up, not smudge) will also help with the choppiness that bostaff mentioned
i wouldnt have used whiter shades to create the light, those lava eyes are just begging to have some orange/red highlights around the face
the smudging on the highlights is a bit blatant, would attack the edges of the highlights with a soft eraser just to make the change a little more gradual
perhaps lower the opacity on them a little, can [pop those orange highlights i mentioned behind the whitish highlights], the colours will pop nicely with that lower opacity.
i like the idea for the teeth, would have liked to see that become a focal point rather than having it blend in with the rest of the head. try changing up to a slightly lighter colour palette for that area specifically, helps to create a little more depth/helps differentiate between whats in front and whats behind.
the design for the rest of the texture looks like it will get crap boring as you work on the rest of it, try spice it up with some inset pieces and a noticable ridge going over the side of the head
i do suggest limiting the highlights on the lower sections of the head, and maximising it on the top sections, keep the lighting somewhat realistic, rather than attacking each tile with the same approach.
not sure if thats what you'd planned for it, seeing as just the face has been completed
Erth, it looks great! I'm just starting on texturing and, let's keep it 100 i suck, badly, but isn't that how everyone starts? anyway, back to topic, would you mind if i used this as an example
the color does not seem to color of stone or rock, remember that the ton of red banner of the forum is just a reflection of lava around them, it would be better to use tonz of gray, I think it would be more realistic.
